I got my electric bill today and it went from $170.00 to $350.00 within a one month period. I know for a fact that this is impossible as we have ad cold fronts and we didn't run the A/C as much as last month and we actually opened our windows on the days that it was cool to save on eletric. I call LCEC and they are not willing to look into the issue of the matter. So after battling with the rep on the phone I decided to hangup. While watching the news you wouldn't believe that I'm not the only person with the same problem with LCEC. The news is actually investing LCEC because they are doing this to other people and it's extortion. It's not fair for us hard working individuals.... if you live in lehigh acres, florida I suggest to find a different electric company if possible.

The "weather man" LOL who seems to have knowledge about your AC is just funny. Not everyone in SouthWest Florida wants to run the AC all day every day. I believe you went 2 weeks. Before you pay in pennies, take the time to turn off the breaker for a few hours a day. Ask the "weatherman" It is cold enough to turn off the AC. Then beat each penny with a hammer so they are nice and flat.

The issue with your response is that for 2 weeks we didn't run the A/C at all. So your reply isn't based upon any facts of my living situation. You say "I bet you did" you sir / mam are remedial and do not understanding my current living situation. There is no way that the bill has went from 170 to 350 in one month. The electric company is using extortion to get more money from people in our area. My mother electric bill was $700 one month and then the next month it was $18. Try to explain that to me. You have no valuable explanation for this type of abuse from the electric company.
LCEC is doing people wrong and it's all over the news right now. Just watch Fox 4 and you will see what I'm talking about.
I'm going to pay my electric bill with pennies unrolled. That will teach you people at LCEC.

To determine if you are being "ripped off", you need to ask yourself a few questions about how you have used your electricity during this particular billing period compared to the last billing period. Was there anything different? Yes, there was. We had a record cold spell from January 4th to January 14th. Did you turn on the heat? I bet you did. Did you realize that running your heater is 4 times more costly than running your air conditioner? Did your utility company suddenly raise their rates? Check the rate per kilowatt hour from your previous bill and see if they are the same. I bet they are the same. Call your electric company and ask what your daily kilowatt hour usage was from January 4th through January 14th. Ask what the kilowatt usage was after January 14th and the following week. I'll bet your usage was significantly higher during that 10 day period. THere is nothing wrong with your bill. My bill increased dramatically too. However, I knew it was going to because I used my heat everyday. I worked for a utility company that serviced my house. I know there is no conspiracy when cold weather comes through. It is a simple fact, when you use the heat, you use much more electricity. The more electricity you use, the higher your bill will be. It is not a "rip off", your heater requires more energy to operate than any other appliance. Yes, we had a few cold days last year at this time, but not 10 days in a row, and not such low temperatures as we experienced in January. You are not be ripped off, you are merely billed for electricity that you used.
