Incredibly difficult experience.  Mold in the attic within two years due to defective application of Icynene Foam insulation. Took DOUBLE the time to build called for in the contract.  This created extra expense and frustration.  Builder did reimburse some of the extra cost.  4 move-in dates and even after we moved in we had a HUGE multi page punch list that took another ONE YEAR to complete.  Builder threatened me with legal action after I talked with other customers about their experience...told me I'd crossed the line and he would only deal with me through his lawyer. Because of incompetent superintendent my wife had to manage the job on an easel in the kitchen for last six months of the job...dealing with subs, finding mistakes, giving direction. Many if not most of builder's customers experience was same or worse.  Several lawsuits filed or contemplated. Builder hardly ever visited site.  Customers intimidated and fearful if they complain too much house will take even longer.  One family had three children before house was built...started with none...no twins or triplets.  Builder owes ME money I paid to sub to fix mold problem...list could easily go on but that should be enough to warn anybody with half a brain...DO NOT HIRE THIS BUILDER.  PLEASE.

Osprey,

Builder uses delicate and unpredictable insulation?

Legacy Builders and I have had an ongoing dispute about the mold problem in the attic of my less than two year old home. Listening to the discussion between the builder, two licensed HVAC guys, and the project supervisor, a customer’s head would be spinning in disbelief. The spray foam insulation, Icynene, is suppose to be the latest and greatest way to minimize air conditioning energy costs. Problem is, if the foam is not properly applied the air conditioning ductwork will sweat and drip onto the sheetrock producing mold over time. In my case, both HVAC guys said the dripping had been happening for a "long time” and that it took "a long time” for mold to develop. The builder’s position is that it’s not his fault and that several very large openings in the foam must have been recently cut because, he claims, they were not there when I moved into the house. That’s the builder’s position. However, regardless of whether or not the big holes were there when I moved in, the foam was not properly applied because there were enough other holes for the barrier to be breeched long enough for mold to develop. Remember, we’re only talking about a TOTAL of 18 months. In my opinion, the builder is understandably worried. What if all the other houses he’s built in the last few years have the same problem? That’s a lot of liability. It also makes this customer wonder if Icynene is all it’s cracked up to be…if it’s so delicate that a few holes the size of a golf ball can wreck havoc over time, is it a good alternative to traditional rolled out insulation? And does it mean any house with Icynene insulation is a ticking time bomb of trouble?

I give up.

Legacy Builders, I give up. I tried and tried but I just can't compete with you. You've tired me out and I can't fight any longer. I'll just have to chalk it up to my naïveté. You'd think at my age I would have learned not to argue with a narcissistic sociopath.

I know you'll get lots of personal satisfaction from demoralizing and defeating a customer and, if that makes you happy, so be it. I just wish I had it in me to continue the fight for truth, honor, and The American Way. Maybe another disgruntled customer (there are so many) will take up the gauntlet as I lay bleeding on the field of cyberbattle. Bye.

Legacy Builders Customer Response

Here's why working with this builder is so frustrating.  He has an answer for everything.  All I can say is there are lots of builders out there and I would not choose this one again for many reasons.  Buyer beware.  Do your homework.  Talk to at least five customers at random...not ones referred by the builder.  I wish I had done that.  Thank you, Ripoff Report, for providing this venue.

The truth

The complainant is not telling the entire truth. The complainant had an issue with his home which was not our fault. Rather than fight we offered and repaired the issue. The complainant is trying to take advantage of the sitiation and made choices without consulting Legacy Builders and expects us to pay for unnecessary equipment. This individual has had a restraing order for harrassing the elderly. He believes rules dont apply to him. I am only expressing the fact that Legacy Builders not only corrected the issues, but wrote a check to thos individual for agreed upon work with the complainants HVAC contractor. If you would like more details please feel free to contact Legacy Builders. We have nothing to hide and have gone over and above for our clients. Our industry is very problematic im the current booming economy. We have made concessions with client monetarily for delays. We can support and prove all statements written above. In addition claimant doesnt spell out that we permitted a home to build and he decided to change the plan and build an entirely different home. This is public record and can be supported. There are always two sides to every story.
