I got charged $19.13 for a one minute collect call WHICH never received!!! I was out of town for the memorial weekend with my family, and nobody was at home, even the answering machine was and is still out of order and was not connected!!

I received my local phone bill for june 2006, and had $19.13 charges for a collect call from Cleveland on the memorial day.. I discovered after calling that number on the bill that it was a hotel!!!

Finally, I got hold of somebody in the Legacy Long Distance International company after holding for more than half an hour..I tried to explain that nobody was home, he refused to credit the charges. Also, he gave me the name of who placed the collect call.... somebody I do not know.

I asked him if I can listen to the acceptance of the collect call: he said they do not record it!!!
He kept repeating that he is not giving me credit and that his company charge people because they accepted the calls!!! sure enough there was no calls received to start with.

I called again and held the line for another 20 minutes. finally somebody answer.. guess who??? the same guy!!!
I asked him to talk to somebody else other than him... Apparently there is no "somebody" else. Is it a one person company ripping off people??? again he refuses any discussion or explanation. He just RECOMMENDed that I need to pay the bill!!!

HELP!HELP! HELP!
Plan A file with the BBB won't do much...such company won't care anyway

Plan B block all collect call from the local conpany this won't work either as this may be a life saving call from a family member

Plan C disconnect the phone ...will think about it seriously

Plan D join fine people like you and put these people out of business and hopfully behind bars

Plan E pay the bill and shut up which will never happened

You might or may not agree with what you are about to read... but here I go...

I do beleive that Legacy is pricey when it comes to collect calls. But then again, doesn't the word itself state its own price? I would suggest to all those Legacy customers to ask for a rate qoute before saying yes or pressing a 1 to authorize any sort of call. Either it'd be collect, third party call, or by a credit card. This question should always be asked.

Ask the operator if you are contacted with a LIVE one. If it is the automated operator LISTEN to ALL the opts. that are given. Option 4, I beleive, gives the rate qoute for this call.

Now I have been on an investigation on Legacy. And I'm afraid to agree with them. When you say 'yes' you do mean yes. And that means yes to all the charges that apply to this specific call.

Now I think it would be best if people got together to make a law in California (where Legacy is located) for Operators to give a mandatory qoute right away. I would also suggest for the automated system to put option number 1 as the rate qoute, rather the option 4 which is the last option on the payphone.

I reviewed a few of the summarys written on ripoffreport.com. People please be smart and dont be afraid to EVER ask the operator or ANYONE for a specific question. Little questions that are left unanswered I do beleive pay a price. So be smart, play detective and do your own investigation.
