On Saturday, September 27, 2008, I made two short phone calls to my daughters, who were in Montclair, NJ, from a phone booth in Elizabeth, NJ. Since I left my cell phone with my daughters I didn't have it with me nor did I have change to pay for the phone calls. Therefore, I dialed 0 and asked to charge the calls to my card. This morning I viewed my card statement on-line and saw that I was charged $18.93 per phone call. I called the number that I was given by the credit card company and was told that the phone booths are privately owned. The owners can charge pretty much what they want. When I stated that was ridiculous the man on the phone got nasty and told me that it was my opinion and he has sense enough to know not to use a pay phone.

I am sending this to you just in case you didn't know about this. I know we live in the world of cell phones, however, there may be a time when you don't have one or have your phone with you, as I did not, and need to use a pay phone. In my opinion, this is just a way of taking advantage of people.
