My husband and I had been shopping around to consolidate our first mortgage and our line of credit. Lending Tree Loans in Irvine, CA won our interest and we paid $600 to lock in a rate.
The loan officer handling our application had been very nice all along and always available when needed. We requested a few extra days to clean up our yard and fill up the swimming pool (we knew what to do since we had gone through an appraisal a few weeks back with another finance company).

The loan officer said "no problem" and set up the appointment for the appraisal. The appraiser called us back saying Lending Tree had cancelled the appraisal until further notice and to call our loan officer for details. I called for 3 days in a row leaving messages to him and his supervisor. I e-mailed him as well but never got a response.

I then decided to call the main number and speak with customer service because at this point I was concerned the loan officer had been let go and our application just abandonded.
He finally decided to call us to say he was out of the office and that he will get back to us with the status of our application. He didn't call and I called him again the following day...when he returned my call it was to say that WE took too long to get the house ready for the appraisal and that the offer could not be maintained. Our file was cancelled!!

He returned our calls until the 5th business day and when my husband talked to his manager, the manager said "he was the end of the line" and there was nothing else we could do.

We are so upset it hurts!! We filed a complaint with their customer service and supposedly their "Escalations Department" will call us back within 3 business days. We don't have a good feeling about this and not only we're not getting our money back, but have lost the offer...AND time we could have decided on some one else's offer.

I still need to research and find what else we can do to make sure this abuse is known to others and that we get what we were offered. We want the loan to go through considering we followed their guidance all along and later penalized because THEY took time off.

The Home Loan Center, dba Lending Tree Loans called us back and literally lied on our faces by saying we "elected" not to go through with the loan. We were also told they do not show any records of us contacting them to follow up...this is so wrong. I assume they go through cases like this way too often and people just give up their money. We lost our $600, but right now an apology will be worth so much more. I replied to their Escalations Department and attached several e-mails that will clear the situation if only they will review them. I requested that they throughly review the documents and the series of events (which I went through in detail for the 4th time) before generating another response. I can see this going no where and they probably expect me to give up, but I think I will continue to fight this...I simply cannot stand the feeling of being abused this way.
