les schwab distribution A great company to work for until you get hurt and then they kick you to the curb. Sounds like a class action lawsuit coming. Laid off and terminated when I was in a guard shack Doctors orders?? prineville, Oregon
After being with this company for several years and busting my butt day in and day out I could not be happier with a company until I got hurt and was placed in a guard shack and told everyday I was an inconvience because I had to be picked up at the parking lot and most of the time I had to stand there and wait for a good 10 minutes while wearing a leg immobilizer and the doctors orders were to stay off of my feet. I was placed in a building not much bigger than a outhouse which was 150-200 yards from the bathroom which I was told I had to walk to in order to use the restroom. There was no water or any thing in this guardshack either. When I was originally injured informed my supervisor I was going to the doctor and he said that was fine so I did so and the doctor put me on light duty so when I returned to work they sent me home which I was at home for close to 2 months and went without recieving a paycheck and to this date still have not for this time missed. After this time passed I contacted human resources and told them they better fix this so they called my supervisor and told him I was to be placed in the guard shack. When I showed up to my disbelief he then has me doctor the incident report since he had not filled out anything in all this time.
After doing alittle research I was amazed that there are so many people that have went through this same exact problem with getting hurt on the job and getting thrown out like a piece of garbage. What I want to know is for a company that says they put their employees first after we have busted our butts for you for so long why are we the ones in the end getting the shaft? I have 5 kids that have always said when I grow up I want to work for les schwab but I would advise anyone against working for this company just for these reasons. I went over 3-4 years with no injuries and a great attitude and it opened alot of doors and earned me alot of respect but look at me now. I have over 20+ people who have been shafted by this company and am encouraging other people to come forward so we can put a stop to this.

I would love to get other names and numbers of other former employee's that were shafted in the same way by this company. I am going to contact the law firm through tigard as well and it may take time to get everything in place to deliver a blow but I have nothing but time on my hands now.
Sad that Les is Gone!

A SHAME!
Les built his company with some very rock solid Ideals. For instance he believed in "building people first", meaning that he cared about his employees, and wanted to create an environment that ensured not just his success, but theirs as well. He started many wonderful programs that made most employees very grateful to work for a man like him, and in turn those employees happily ran fast, worked long hours and weeks, sweating bullets, all with devotion uncommon, and wearing a genuine smile for him and the customers. WE WERE PROUD TO BE MEMBERS OF "LES SCHWAB FAMILY".
Where am I going with this rebuttal- well stop by the McMinnville store and look for the familiar always helpful bookkeeper who everyone in town recognizes as the gal at schwabs who is always the first one to help you, and you wont find her. Fired with NO reason after 17 years with the company, I am shocked!. Her son dressed in Les Schwab clothes since a baby, the family proudly sported Les Schwab gear on days off. She is one of many, the original, the true heart blood that made the company a success. And now is cutout in a way that Les would have never allowed.
Sure times are tough everywhere, unemployment are at an all time high, I understand that, but Les had enough vision, and simplicity to him, a no frills kind of guy that we could all relate to. He was no typical million dollar mogul, he would have never spent the kind of money the new corporate heads did to move the main office to Bend so they could have a big fancy headquarters like they think they "deserve"(Les lived very happily all those years at the Prineville Main Office- Keeping the future and well being of his employees and company above all else) Les cared about his community too, and the company never could've made the move to Bend while Les was alive, I think Les knew the devastating impact that would have on the businesses in Prineville. Also corporate paid for many of its corporate employees moving expenses and closing costs to move them to Bend. Its a 75 Mile round trip commute from Prineville to Bend?? I made an 80mile commute (happily) for seven years while working for them, the gal at McMinnville Commuted to Tigard for over ten years, HAPPILY.
Les talked with a politician one time and told him that one of the biggest problems we face is that too many people have a sense of entitlement, this was many years ago. Amazing Insight huh? Perhaps a prediction? the sense of entitlement at the corporate level is robbing those who built this company by the sweat of their brows and the time missed with their families all in hopes of a shared success in the company.
Let me pose this question "If the company cant afford to keep an employee that they know has been an asset, firing them with no reason, saying they know its not right, then how is it that company can afford to take the managers trip to Hawaii at the beginning of '09?" seems a bit extravagant during questionable profits. Instead they are chopping the heads off the people you and I want to see when we go into a Schwabs.
There was a day when I was proud to say I worked for Les Schwab, because of its reputation for treating customers and employees right, but those days are gone. If the Les Schwab company still feels that its employees are the "Lifeblood" of its success then they had better realize they are committing corporate suicide by cutting the employees that are the ones who keep their customers coming back. Its the Customer Service that keeps them coming back, its common knowledge you can buy tires cheaper everywhere else. I hate to tell the customers this but wage cost is high, net profit is low and the first thing to get cut in the Post Les Schwab era is the one thing that set them apart, quality employees, which equaled good customer service.
I know this will receive HUGE comments back from faithful and devoted current employees, let me just say, even YOUR job isn't secure, and YOU will look at things differently when you are wrongly kicked out of the company you devoted your life to being part of, to help build. I have sincere heartbreak when I think about this company becoming like every other corporation, where the only thing that matters is the bottom line, profits. Its not what Les envisioned for his company, sad to see all that he created go to waste.

I have an attorney representing me for workmans comp claim!

I have had an attorney working on my workman's comp claim I need to find someone to represent me for the wrongful termination because the attorney specializes in work comp problems. Any suggestions on a great attorney that will go after an arrogant company? I want someone to teach them a lesson and that employee's are worth more than the number they put on them!! "pride in performance" what a line of crap!! After reading about all of the other customers that have went through the same B.S. I feel sorry that I was ever part of a dishonest company. There are many other tire companies out there that sell quality products and wont lie to you in the process and try to sell you a warranty and not honor it! While all the valued customers are suffering all of the upper management are enjoying their trips to Hawaii and throwing out the trash when they get back..A.K.A."Injured employee's"!! Word of mouth goes along way now days and 132 negative reports against a great company will definitely leave a bad taste in people's mouth but then again they are arrogant so what do they care!!!

What they are doing is illegal. Do you have an union (best first step). Then consult an employment lawyer or PI lawyer. They'll take your case on percentage contingency - and will give you advice, usually for free on informational first meeting basis and tell you if you have a case.
Hope that helps.
PS - you can find reputable PI/Employment lawyers thru your state bar associatin.

I started out on short term disability and was on workmans comp.

I started out on short term disibility and then was moved to workmans comp and continued sitting in the guard shack. I was then notified by the supervisor I was being placed on a seasonal layoff which was to last up to 90 days which ended over 30 days ago and then I lost all of my medical and everything else. I seen this coming though because it has been done to so many employee's it is easier for this company to fire you so they do not have to pay comp or any of your other bills. There resolution is to usually say I will give you so much money if you turn your head and you can never be imployed by this company ever again. I have not seen them make any attempts to fix this or anything so I guess Im going to start pushing my own buttons and maybe get this arrogant company's attention for once. J-DUB

Question. Were you on short term diability when you were fired. If so it is illegal to terminate someone if they are on disability or workmans comp that stemmed from an injury while on the job.
Also contact the Americans with disabilities act. you were disabled for awhile they may be able to help you. also your local EEOC just google your local one. You may have a case
good luck
