Went to have a front wheel bearing replaced on New Years Eve as this was the only place open. Vehical is a 2007 GMC Classic SLT 4x4.  Part number for Hub Assembly is BR930661.  I was charged $373.15 for the Hub Assembly.  I asked them why it was so expensive and I was told that is the standard price for the part.

After having no choice but to pay the bill I checked all the other local stores and on the internet and found this same exact part to retail from low $148.00 to highiest I could find $207.79  I feel this was a totally unreasonable mark up and they new due to the holiday and how bad the bearing was that I had no choice but to fix it.

You don't say whether that price included labor to install it.

By the way, you need to do your comparison shopping before you buy the part not after.

The conditions are not the same.

The parts stores do NOT have to install and warrant the installation of the part(s) whereas the shop does.

Usually parts markups are high at most shops so the labor charge can be relatively lower.

If you want to make a VALID comparison of prices, check with other repair servicers for their price.

Of course you'll find some differences, but the playing field will be level.

No, I DON'T work for ANY repair or parts company.
