A few months ago my car needed new front brakes. I called and asked the price for a front brake job for my car. I told them the make and model and I said just give me a ballpark figure. They quoted $300 or so. I thought that seemed a little high but I said OK just because I was pressed for time and didn't want to quibble about a few bucks.

When I took my car in for the work they said OK, no problem. I asked what will this cost exactly? The guy said $1350! I replied, $1350 for a front brake job, that is ridiculous! Why is it so expensive? Well, we replace all the parts necessary for all 4 front and rear brakes. including new calipers, rotors and disk pads. I said, I just want the front brakes done, and I don't need calipers or rotors, the car is only a few years old. They said that that they could not do that and replacing ALL the parts was the only way they could guarantee their work.

Obviously I told them no freakin way and left the shop.

I had John's automotive in Corvallis do the front brakes and the bill was $150! The brakes now work great.

What REALLY makes  me angry is that Les Schwab preys on women or anyone who is not car savvy, or has no idea what they really need and what it should cost. Their advertising on TV is all about about how much they care and go out of their way help people in distress. Like they are a trusted old friend willing to come to your aid any time day or night. That could not be further from the truth.

They practice up-selling at any opportunity.  Don't be duped by Schwab. Even for just tires, which are overpriced. Shop around. I have found American tire to have comparable quality and better pricing, without all the underhanded and deceitful practices.

I have read rebuttals on here from people who trust Les Schwab implicitly. I'm glad they had  favorable experieances at Scwab over the years. But did they really gat a good deal or service, or they just didn't know any better? I say DON'T DRINK THE KOOL-AID. They are the worst kind of unscrupulous.
