Complaint Review: Liberty Homes (Bud or Deb Rosson)

Liberty Homes aka Bud or Deb Rosson Fairbanks Alaska ...over $50,000 in documented defects and code violations ..running from state to state ripping off consumers

Moved to this area in Jun 98. We are in the military and must move often. Each time we move, we buy a house and sell it when we leave. We have never had problems in 19 years, always treated fairly, until now.

Bought a Liberty Home, found no written record of any problems with this company. Within one year (brand new house) we now have over $50,000 in documented defects and code violations. They have refused to fix anything claiming they have no responsibility. We have filed a lawsuit but the courts say at least one year for a trial and the lawyer says it could cost $100,000. In the meantime, Liberty Homes is planning to leave town as they did here several years ago. Since our problems were uncovered we have found out that many owners of Liberty Homes have serious problems.

The worst part is all the local people know the the bad reputation of this builder - banks, mortgage companies, lawyers, neighbors, etc. People new to the area are out of luck. This home was inspected by an Alaska Housing Finance inspector, a city inspector and even by an engineer we hired. All were apparently either incompetent or committing a crime (fraud).

If this report will keep even one person from buying one of these homes without a VERY thorough inspection--recommend an ICBO certified inspector--pay the extra $500-1000--it could save you over $50,000!! These people also built homes in Texas several years ago when they were initially run out of Alaska, if anyone has information about those homes would like to hear it.

First, I'm sorry that you have had such issues with your builder and sincerely hope you are able to find resolution.

Because the message states that your builder works under the name "Liberty Homes" and they travel "state to state", I wanted to clarify for the public that the builders you reference are in no way affiliated with Liberty Homes of Utah, which is owned by David Clark and managed from a permanent office in Sandy, Utah.

Thank you for allowing me this clarification.  If you find yourself in need of a home in Utah, don't be afraid to look us up!
