Four years ago, I was put on an insulin pump thru my Drs. office.  When I arrived to set it up, they gave me everything.  The pump and 3 months worth of supplies.  After insurance paid for it, the balance due was a bit over 800.00.  Four years later, that pump started to fail, as I was informed it would.  Medtronic, the manufactuer, called me to set up shipping me a new pump.   It included a new product called sensors that would monitor my blood sugars all day and night.  I've been insulin dependent for 37 years.  I work very hard at staying healthy.  I went to order regualar pump supplies, no sensors, I told them I didn't like them and the cost was too much.  I just wanted to use the pump as I had been for the last 4 years.  They said no problem.  I received a call from Liberty wanting to know if I had set up a payment plan for the 1800.00 bill.  I said no.  A person by the name of Amy told me it would only be a bit over 800.00.  I then agreed.  I thought Amy worked for Medtronic, as I had only remembered talking to them.  She apparantly works for Liberty Medical.  I wanted to order supplies, the basic quick sets and resevoirs for my pump.  They will not send them to me until i set up a payment plan for the 1800.00.  They also informed me that I only had 30 days to return the sensors, or I would have to pay for them.  I was never told I only had 30 days, or I would have sent them back.  They have not been opened.  So if I want to continue on the insulin pump, I must pay the 1800.00 to get supplies to run the basic pump alone.  None of this went down like it did the first time.  Being a fairly new user, I felt I was not handled fairly.  My disease is expensive.  I take good care of myself and don't want to have to go back on 6 shots a day, but I just might have to!  It's a shame that people die in this country because they cannot afford the medical things they need.
