I recently within this week went to get my income taxes prepared. I decided to try this new place on 519 Landis Avenue in Vineland NJ. I noticed they had a statue of liberty mascot walking up and down the pavement. After less than half an hour my taxes were prepared and the owner came out and handed me a $50.00 bill. I thought it was odd but he stated its a promotion. People there were being told to come back in two days for their paperwork....another strange sign.  Two days later I went back for my paperwork and in the middle of the papers was the unitemized bill for $798.00 with the bottom of the paper showing 239.00 promotion discount. I questioned the owner on this very INFLATED bill. He stated that he was sorry as it was his first time running a tax service and he really hadn't researched area pricing and so he was not skilled in the pricing end of things. He assured me that next year he would do my taxes for free but it was too late to do anything this year as the papers were already filed. He assured me also that he had so kindly given me a 30% discount...which was by the way not documented any where and with all of these wonderful discounts the bill was inflated more than a hot aired balloon! My final bill was 559.00. It is a disgrace for companies to so greedily steel from anyone much less those of us who work all year so hard just to in the end be stolen from. I pray that something can be done with this company and I am also hoping to obtain some of the money stolen from me.

My husband is in the a situation where they gave a credit for $2500 for school, but there is no and were no documents for school in the letters given to the tax preparer. We just got a letter from the IRS stating that his owes about $3000. He called the owner and the owner called him back and stated that there is nothing he can do. I was told that they would stand by their customer or pay for any mistakes that led to owing or get audited by the IRS. They have not! We have called again but now the owner can never be reached!

Greetings. I am sorry to hear that you feel that you had a bad experience using a Liberty Tax Service office.

While each Liberty Franchisee sets up their own billing schedule, and for a new Zee this can be difficult, you have a easy solution, ask for a refund.  One of the documents you should have been given is a copy of the Liberty Guarantees. These are what makes Liberty so much better than the competition. One of the guarantees is that if you are not satisfied for any reason, you will get a full refund. Here is the guarantee copied from the Liberty Tax Service web site:

Satisfaction Guarantee Our offices guarantee every tax return service 100%. If you are not satisfied for any reason, the
office will refund your preparation fees.

While it is "off-season", this office has posted open hours of Noon to 5 pm Tuesday and Thursday. Recommend you ask for a refund of the entire amount or maybe the amount in excess of what you feel would have been fair.  If after visiting the store you are still not satisfied then call the Corporate Headquarters at (800) 790-3863 and file a compliant, they will act very quickly, but try the local office first.  I am sure this will resolve your issue.

As to being a fly by night outfit, Liberty is the third largest tax preparation business in the US and slated to be number one by 2020.   Liberty recently celebrated it's 15th birthday.

I wish you the best of luck and come back to Liberty next year.

Improve each day!
Mike
