I applied for my first loan to combine loans as a college student and they wanted 2600.00 down. I gave them the money and they backed out of the loan, and I am afraid it was a scam.

Google "Advance Fee Loan". You'll find an article on the FTC website. You should file a complaint there, and / or at ic3.gov.

If you paid via Western Union, your money is gone.
