Linksys smart wifi setup.com linksyssmartwifisetup.com scam, attempts to hack into computer, fake Linkksys smart wifi technical support, fake 323 area code Internet
Was trying to set up a wireless router from Lynksys. Needed to reset the wifi password to connect to the internet I followed the link http://www.linksyssmartwifisetup.com/ which takes you to a scam site!!! It looks a bit fishy but appears to be Lynksys online support and that is when a chat box appears. The support tech then asks you your issue and for your name/email and phone number. Immediately an agent calls you for "live tech support". Red flag # 1 was being asked to hit the windows key and hold R to open the system command on my laptop.
Basically the "agent" was trying to gain access to my computer remotely to do God knows what. Of course I did not oblige and began question why he couldn't just walk me thru the set up. I also questioned why for customer support the # was 323-250-8005 and not an 800#. After growing tired of my skeptcism he hung up on which was just fine. Turns of the correct site is : http://www.linksyssmartwifi.com. As far as real tech support they helped set up my router and their # is actually 1-800-546-5797. BEWARE!! Read another post where these people try to make you pay anywhere from 49.99 - 149.99 and other nonsense regarding your privacy!
