Complaint Review: Live Smart Solutions

Live Smart Solutions Malicious Software; Virus Warning Mount Pleasant, South Carolina

I received an email from this company on September 3, 2012.  It was titled, "Fat loss secrets: 5 everyday products never to eat".  I opened the email.  The title said, "5 common foods that harm your weight loss efforts"  The entire picture\ad is a link to their website.  Curious, I clicked on the picture to visit their site and read the rest of the article.  This activated my Virus Protection Software that warned me that it had just blocked Malicious Software from this site.  Not wanting to risk infecting my computer, I closed the page and tried to unsubscribe using the link in the email.  It went to the same site with the same warning about Malicious Software that was (thankfully), again blocked by my Virus Protection Software.

At present, I'm unable to unsubscribe from the site, so I've relegated them to my SPAM folder. However, I am contacting the company by email to ask that they unsubscribe me.  Should they comply, I will amend this report accordingly.

No Virus, Nothing Malicious

Hello Jeff,

I got to the bottom of this.

One of our affiliates sent you that email. There is nothing malicious about the email. The affiliate uses a link that redirects you to our site. This is standard practice. This redirect set off your virus software's alarms.

Then, when you tried to unsubscribe, the unsubscribe link again has to go through this redirect which again set off the alarms.

Virus software is great for protecting you but, for the sake of being safe, it can sometimes jump the gun. I am sure you have experienced this before.

Fortunately, there is no virus or malicious software on either the redirect or our site.

Our affiliate only wants to send email to people that want to receive it. What's interesting is that you were actually interested in what the email had to say so you are probably a pretty good fit for their email newsletter. It's just that your virus software got in the way.

Our affiliate assured me that if you give me your email, they would gladly remove it from their list.
Please contact me and I will personally take care of this.

Hello,

My name is John Cawrse and I am the affiliate manager for Live Smart Solutions.

First let me apologize for this inconvenience and thank you for bringing it to my attention.

Because the unsubscribe link did not work this email did not come from Live Smart Solutions.

All communications coming from Live Smart Solutions have unsubscribe links that work and we do not have any virus or spyware on our site.

It may have come from one of our affiliates.

Could you please give me more info so I can track down this affiliate and shut them down?

The exact url that you were asked to click on would be best.

This hopefully will allow me to discover the affiliate's identity.

John
