I have been betting at auction now for many years. I had found some honest ones but many not so honest. When I found out about Liveauctioneers I felt that the idea of a company bidding for me when I can't be at the location  and not allow the auction house know what my maximum bid is was a great idea and indeed that was and is what Liveauctioneers claims....... untill I had purchaed an oriental rug at the maximum amount that I had left an absentee bid for. Curious to see who was the underbidder I checked the bid hisory and surprisingly saw that there was a higher bid for that item. I contacted Liveauctioneers and asked them how was the item awarded to me if there was a higher bidder? They told me that that the auction house had made a mistake and there was not a higher bidder. I asked them if the auction houses are allowed to retract their bid? To my surprise they said that they are allowed to retract their bid. Now what this means is that the auction houses will be able to keep bidding and incresing the price of an item until they don't see  a return bid from Liveauctioneers and then the will retract their bid.

I have asked if there is a record of how many times each of these auctioneers are retracting the bid and was not given an answere. Now every thing that Live auctioneers is doing is to hide the many problem auctioneers that they have. For example they allow the auctioneers to file a dispute against the bidders but not the other way arround nor will they allow each party to explain their position.

Try not to leave an absetee bid with live auctioneers specialy with Tim's Inc. Auctions in 185 Farmington Ave,

In order to see my conversation with them I am pasting my on line conversation and emails for everyone to see.

to LiveAuctioneers
The above rug was awarded to me after a higher bid was accepted and since there was no more increase by Liveauctioneers automated system they somehow cancelled the higher bid and awarded it to me (I still don't know how this was allowed). I was under the impression that the system does not allow the auction house to go back and recapture a bid. The advantage of bidding with Liveauctioneers is that the auction house does not know what the bidders maximum bid is. However if you allow the auction house to prob back and forth what is the use of me bidding with Live auctioneers. In this case Time's Auction claims that they made a mistake. If that is acceptable, I have many items that I have bought which was a mistake and would like to return it. Further more if the mistake was done at a lower price than my maximum bid I would not have had an issue with it, however the mistake was exactly at the highest price that I had bid.

I have bought many items in your system and my understanding was that the house never knows what buyer's maximum bid is. In this case how did they come back the your system allowed them to cancel a higher bid that was registered and cancel a higher bid and claim a previous bid?????? I need to know if your system is what you claim it to be and why did you allow the auction house to recapture the lower bid? How does that assures the buyers that their bids are not known to the auction house? Please let me know.

Additionally I will not accept this rug since the mistake was done the auction house and not me. Who knows how many times they repeated this over bidding mistake to get to my maximum bid !!!!!! You really need to protect the buyer since the onl;y reason that we as buyers use your system is secrecy of our bids otherwise why not just bid with the house and save a few percentages as well?

P.S. I see that they have conveniently erased the bid history.

to me

Hello,

Thank you for your e-mail.

After further research into the bid progression of the lots from this sale, we do not see any irregularity with the way bids were being accepted. It is possible for the auction house to retract a bid because the clerking of the console is controlled by an actual person and human errors can occur. However, we will keep your concern on file with the auction house.

Regards,
LiveAuctioneers Staff

to me

Hello,

Below is the sales transcript for Lot 81 of the Tim's Inc. Auctions on 06/30/2013. As per the transcript, your last bid that was submitted and accepted was for 1450. Then the clerk at the auction house accepted a floor bid for 1500 but then was retracted and marked as sold to you. As LiveAuctioneers does not control the clerking on the console and are not present on the live sale floor, you will need to contact the auction house directly for further information.
