I signed up for Local Net as my internet provider.

First of all, I had signed up and payed extra to get the "high speed" service... 5x's faster they say! HA, that was a joke. Five minutes to open one page. When I called to complain about it, they tell me it is my computer (a brand new, fully upgraded Sony Vaio), that is making it slow (26.4K).

This service was used to contact possible clients for my buisness by using my Localnet email account. One day, when I tried to connect to the internet, my computer stated that it could not connect to the server.

I called Local Net and asked them what had happened. They told me they disconnected my service. When asked why wasn't I notified, they tell me that they tried to contact me but my phone was disconected (funny, it was the same phone that I was calling them from!). When asked why they disconnected me they told me I was sending spam to AOL users and they were complaining. The representative told me that if I write on the bottom of these email's, " 'If you would like to be removed from this mailing list, please respond this email with 'remove' in the subject line', and you will not have any more problems". And the representative reopened my account so long as I assured him I would put this on any future emails.

So that's what I did, exactly as the representative told me to do.

A week or two later, same thing happens. I try to conect to the internet, and it dosent work. Again, I call LocalNet. A different representative told me my account was closed and locked! He say's "you were warned once not to send spam. We recieved more complaints, and you can no longer use our service." I mentioned to this representative what the last rep. said about the "please remove" line on the bottom of the account. He said that was not a guarentee, only a suggestion! (Lie #2!)

After almost an hour on the phone with this RUDE rep., trying to at least let me get my information off of my email account (he still wouldnt let me), I asked this gentleman his name. His response, "I am unauthorized to tell you"!!

When asked to speak to his supervisor, I get transfered to a female rep. (another rep, NOT his supervisor). Every question I asked her (ie.: Why did you close my account? Can I see a copy of the so called SPAM? Why did your rep. give me a guarentee that ended up getting me kicked off the server?), she answered, "I am unsure". And again, the rep refused to identify herself. It's like they knew they screwed up and didnt want to take the blame for it.

I then asked for my money back. I was told that a request would be put in to the billing dept. to refund my money, but was assured that they will not give it to me anyway. I was never contacted by this company, nor given my refund.

I don't care to get my money back, I just want to warn everyone not to bother with Local Net...they will RIP YOU OFF!!

Full Agreement on Local Net Rip Off

#2Consumer Comment

Mon, July 05, 2004

I fully agre with yor comments on Local Net ( out of Caldwell, Ohio). I have been co-owner of UplinkUSA.net Internet Services in Senecaville, Ohio for 2+ years and have heard of at least 6 different customers from Local Net who were either mis-billed, non-billed, shut off without warning, or subject to other non-fault problems from Local net. Although I can not speak for Local Net and am unable to offer a solution to their business practices, I can offer an alternative in my own company,((redacted))

sorry, allowing you to give a competitors name would instigate others to just file against their competition, to only come back later to suggest their company your comments on this policy are welcome!
