I was working for Lonestar Subscriptions as part of a mag crew. When I found the add, it stated that There was two weeks paid training, which was paid as twenty dollars a day cash. It stated that I was also guaranteed a trip home at their expense if I didn't like the work, this never happened. When I arrived all it turned out to be was a group of people staying from hotel to hotel, scamming door to door selling magazines as part of a "Contest to win trips and scholarships" for the employees. Each magazine had "fronts" meaning that the front was what the seller was to recieve for each subscription sold, they never panned out to pay what they were supposed to pay. One day alone I was shorted a great deal of money, I should have been given over two hundred dollars and was given 35 dollars, the rest went on some account that never was given to me. They even had us going on military bases and posing as contestants in a "base race" going through twelve bases in twelve weeks, to say our parents were "Cryptotechnologists" on a base in Norfolk Va. I refused and was verbally abused for not doing the job. I was told "Don't be an "f-ing" p***y like the other girl" This was not the only time I was verbally accosted by the "manager" Tim Bowman (using a fake id as "Kevin Smith") He also felt free to cal lme a w***e, a b***h and many other derogatory names throughout my "employment". Tim/Kevin used his fake id when in a car accident, as I wrote out the report for him given to the other party in the accident, he also handed them five hundred dollars cash so they wouldn't file reports with the police department. There were very sketchy employment practices, meetings, long hours(12-13 hrs) Monday through Saturday and on Sundays we would travel to the next state, or town. Some of the towns or areas we were dropped off in resulted in assualts on the girls involved, even rape. Twice in one week. I was also assaulted while working in the area. There was no safety measures in place, they broke florida laws and left us sketchy neighbor hoods after dark, overall their practices were dangerous and they felt free to break laws everywhere they turned. They glady drank and did drugs at the end of long work days with underage employees. They need to be investigated and stopped, they are not road rules and they don't offer or even pay the employees properly and they don't win any prizes as they advertise or say when selling the magazines to the customers or "Joneses".

Lonestar Subscription or was that Crossroads Subscriptions or was the Five Star Sales... or whatever the company is calling itself these days is a company totally based on commiting fraud.  According to the Dallas, TX Better Business Buruea there is over 300 cases against this company for sales fraud in the past 12 months and more than 1100 cases in the past 5 years.  To be honest I'm kind of glad some of you workers or ex-workers are getting screwed over.  Now you know how the people you cheated out of there money feel.

#4UPDATE EX-employee responds

My name is Glenn and I was part of many mag crews in my six and a half years traveling. I just so happened to work for Timmy B. Honestly, he's not you'r model citizen, but then again who really is. Especially if you're on a traveling Mag crew? I honestly can't read this and just not rebuttal. As a mag man you live in an alternate reality that I like to call "mag land". If you sell a lot at this job, all you'r faults are overlooked. But if you really suck at selling books take your WAB a$$ home. Seriousley, the job was not for you. The job was for the strong willed braveharts like Nick Andrewjeski, Suzanne Miller, Brittany Mahan,Glenn Gibson and exc...We all made money under this man who is not as idiotic as the mistakes hes made,so dont bash. To all the people who cry about getting scammed, you actually like it or you wouldnt buy into it. I have attempted being honest and letting the joneses know "this is my job, I am traveling learning a life skill and working toward my promotion and future goals" and all that gets you is an excuse. So stop complaining, its 30,50,60 bucks, oh well, if they dont come, $h!t happens. But  only 1 3rd gets scammed :0 just kidding. See after four years off the road I keep in contact with life long friends I made during my adventure and all have been doing well, good jobs, families, and a lot of these things we earned by using the skill we learned from this job and people like Timmy B.

So to the people who are on rip off report, Dont pay attention to ex employees who just want to bash the person who was honest and told the person they werent good or used terms like F'n pu$$y,or you suck. We all think these things about people some of us will just say these things and not care. By the way there are only a hand full of reports on here, and I know from experience, as an agent we may not always be 100 percent honest for whatever reason but I sold more mags in 5 minutes than the amount of complaints on this site.
