I recently purchased a wonderful male golden retriever puppy that I have named 'Miles'. I am writing to advise prospective puppy buyers to stay away from the breeder from which I purchased the dog. I purchased the pup from a local breeder based in Ronkonkoma by the name of 'Long Island Goldens', owned by Alexander Ulupinar I took him home last Saturday and he had a small seizure that lasted approximately 30 - 45 seconds. He had another seizure this past Wednesday night with conditions of losing control of his bowels, vomiting and being unconscious for about 1 minute. My wife and I were terrified and immediately took him to the closest 24 hour facility to our home. The vet took him overnight for observation and did blood and fecal tests, bile analysis (to eliminate the possibility of a shunt) and an EEG (to monitor for possible heart murmurs) I did all this for my pup because I wanted the best possible care for him. All tests came up normal but the vet recommended that we get our money back for the pup since its most likely juvenile epilepsy or some other hard to diagnose brain condition. I wasn't ready to give up yet so I took my boy to two other recommended vets and they both recommended the same thing - that Miles was unfit for sale and that I should get my money back. The best case scenario it seems is epilepsy which can be treated by a daily dose of Pheno. Epilepsy in pups this young is unusual but possible (like all of the other possible diagnosis) There is a possibility that he will grow out of it. The worse case scenario is some sort of brain disease that would probably be fatal. Unfortunately, the test for this would be expensive not to mention painful for my 2 month old puppy. I decided to end all of the tests for the pup and let time pass and hope for the best. Per the local puppy lemon law, I am entitled to recoup some of the vet expenses that I incurred as a result of trying to properly diagnose Miles' condition. You can imagine the reaction of the breeder when I made him aware of this. First, he refused to acknowledge any issues with his line and blamed my wife and I for not properly taking care of him. Second, he refused to pay for any vet expense since he feels that vets are only there to take pet owners for a ride and I wasted my money by frivolously going to vet after vet trying to help my puppy. He has been combative and extremely unhelpful. He has made a naturally stressful situation even worse for my family. Please advise any puppy buyers to NOT go through Long Island Goldens. It might spare a few families additional heartache and grief by avoiding a breeder that has no regard for his customers.
