Do not let them in.  They will not leave.  They will try to make you sign a contract without even allowing you to think about their offer.  Talk about cheap used car salesman tactics.  They will walk in trying to tell you how superior their windows are and how much money you will save.  But then when you finally want the FREE QUOTE they advertise, they drag their feet and try to make you sign the contract before you even know the final price.

One guy sat in my house for 4 hours and would not give me their best price so that I can compare it to the other estimates I had.  What they like to do is this.  They hit you with an outrageous offer at first.  If you decline, they will start cutting the price and the longer you hold out, lower the price goes.  I kept asking him for the best price and when he finally told me, $40000 for 35 windows.  I said "no", because it was over my budget.  He then, made a phone call and came back with a price of $35000.  I still said "no, because my budget was $23000.  I expected the guy to leave.  I only wanted a free estimate.  So then he starts putting papers in front of me to fill out and sign.  I told him, politely (since he was in my house and i didn't know him), "I can't sign, its too expensive."  Finally after more attempts to make me sign, he made another phone call.  This time it was to one of the partners (family) of Long Windows.  The guy finally offered me $23000 for 25 windows.  25?  I said, i need a quote for 35 since I need them all replaced.  Did they want me to go to another company to get my other 10 windows replaced?  After 4 hours of this, I asked them to leave and never come back.  IF the so called windows are so superior than why act like you are trying con the customer.

These idiots don't realize that I called them because I wanted windows.  You don't have to convince me that I need a window.  I already know that.  I don't know who runs the sales/business department but that person needs to go.  You need to change the whole stucture so that you don't have so many angry customers. If your product is supposed to be so great,  then stand by them.  The people who want quality, like me, will call you back and order the windows.

I will second this account.  The Long people that I met for an estimate refused to take no for an answer.

I was curious what it might cost to upgrade the seven builder quality windows in my townhouse and decided to invite Long in for a free estimate.  The sales people were very friendly and one of them seemed genuinely interested in my hobbies, often getting off track.  When it got down to business he went through their window spiel showing why Long windows are the greatest thing since sliced bread, and the longer it went the more I began to suspect I was in for some sticker shock.

After roughly two or three hours they finally pulled out a calculator and presented a $13,000 figure for seven of their highest quality windows.  Not being an impulse buyer and having done no research, I don't know if this quote was generous or ridiculous and had no desire to make a purchase.  When they asked me to commit to a down payment I flatly refused until I would be able to research and compare their product to determine if I wanted to buy it.  I also have a neighbor with the same house who recently replaced their windows (possibly with Long) and I wanted to get their input too.  Unfortunately Long refused to accept any answer that didn't involve a cash commitment.  After an hour of this I also got to wondering why they were so insistent on a commitment.  If their product is so superior, shouldn't my research support that?  They've already impressed me with their product, so why won't they give me a competitive quote and leave?

After nearly four hours I grew tired of their pointless haggling and went broken record, answering every question with either "No" or "I will not make a commitment today".  One of them commented to his boss over the phone that I was so calm and cool that I didn't look interested.  I'm not sure if that was a complement or an insult (implying I was wasting his time).  Either way, they finally grew frustrated and left shoulders slumped at 11:00 pm.

So overall I feel like Long has a solid product which would make a good investment, but their adamant refusal to let me speak with other customers and research their product leaves me suspicious.  If I do decide to purchase Long windows it will be because I feel that their product offers the best value for it's price, not because of their salespeople.
