My family and I recently visited this Longhorn location. I had been once before to another location but my family was new to the restaurant. My wife is pregnant and was craving steak. We dined out on Thursday night around
8pm.

Everything went perfectly fine. The waitress was on point & pleasant. The entire family of four was happy with their meals.

I have a habit to keep receipts until they post on my account. I mistakenly threw out this receipt totaling $59.82. We left a cash tip of $7 & wrote in print -CASH- on the tip line of the bill.

On monday I checked my account online to find I had been charged $68.82 for the bill. With no evidence of the correct amount in my posession I called the restaurant. The manager on duty was pleasant & helpful to me as I could not exactly remember which night we dined at first. He searched through days of receipts to find my bill but could not until I remembered for sure it was Thursday.

He found the bill & contacted me with a resolution of credit & other coupons & assured me that disciplinary action would be taken if anyone had intentional
plans to overcharge someone.

I would dine there again with no problem or any other restaurant but highly recommend that everyone keep their receipts for purchases at any location that accepts tips until payment posts.

Waiting for my perks from the restaurant through snail mail.

If anyone else has had a similar situation at this specific location please mention so this "mistake" does not happen again. Not blaming the restaurant at all but the person(s) with bad intent or negligence.

You admit the service was "...perfectly fine. The waitress was on point & pleasant. The entire family of four was happy...". And yet you stiffed the waitress with a meager 11% tip. Oh joy! Good luck trying to get anyone else at that place to serve you.

Lindsey, I am sure the OP already knows this ...

A guy who takes a family of 4 out to a steakhouse, raves about the excellent service and food, and then leaves only a $7 tip is definitely on the cheap side. Anyone who regularly utilizes a debit card to pay for a restaurant meal knows about pre-authorized amounts. This already-cheap guy was just trying to play this off to make a few extra bucks, hence his comments about waiting for his "perks via snail mail."

Banks put an extra 18- 20% hold on credit card transactions, not the restuarant

I used to work at a restaurant and we got calls all of the time regarding this situation. When you pay by credit card at a restaurant, the credit card company will add 18%- 20% automatically, even if you do not tip at all. This is to ensure that you do not overdraft or go over your credit limit. It's only a hold, not a charge and if you look at your bank statement, it should have been taken off within a couple of business days at the most. Your server did not try to steal from you. The reason banks chose to hold 18-20% is because that's now considered the standard acceptable gratuity. If you are going to be going out to eat you must pay for the services you are given., not only the food. FYI, servers make around $2.13/hour, and it's hard work.
