Lori DeBoer Boulder Writers Workshop Writing Coach LorI DeBoer Pushed Me Boulder Internet
Before I got sucked into working with Lori DeBoer, Iwas enjoying my writer lifestyle,, going to conferences, reading at open-mics and organzing a critique group at my church. I was sending out stories and not getting published, let alone getting somebody in the pubishing world to take my novel seriously. I felt like a poser and wannabe.
Then I took the plunge and had to take a hard look at my writing. She demanded a lot, including giving me outside readings and lending me books out of her personal library, for pete's sake. Well, I ended up working with her for about a year, revising my novel. I couldn't switch my tenses. I had to write in a closer point of view. My characters had to have story goals. I had to proofread. On and on and on. She held my feet to the fire. She pushed me!
She sometimes answered my e-mails at midnight. Come on. Who does that? Plus she's got that Midwestern NICE thing going, if you know what I mean.
So then I felt obligated to attend her Boulder Writers' Workshop classes. All those writers were there and I felt very uncomfortable, coming out of my shell. I ended up talking to a lot of her other clients, many of who have been published or won awards. I can see why. With her reputation preceding her, she's getting really busy and does not have much time for coffee or lunch anymore. So do me a favor and stay away from her! She'll ruin your wannabe writing lifestyle and push you to be authentic and professional. Who needs that?
