I did not realize that I had a judgement until I had my credit report pulled. We had moved and I changed jobs. After finding out from the credit report, I checked OSCN and found there was an order for garnishment sent to an old employer.

This judgement is based on an old credit card account of my wife's which, I guess by default comes to me after we were married. The judgement is more than double what she remembers the balance to be - it was for $4902! The judgement was in 2005 so I am not sure what our recourse is at present. It says on OSCN that we were served in 2005 but I certainly think I would have remembered being served, especially if both me and my wife were separately served.

We would like to come to some kind of settlement and aren't really looking to try to get out of paying a legitimate debt. What should my next step be? I don't have $5000 laying around to try to pay off the debt, or even $2500 to settle at 50%.
