When you pay Lowe's, but have another company install the product you get the impression that you have the backing of Lowe's. WRONG!!

I purchased a $4750.00 Carrier heat pump system through Lowe's install program. The sales rep from D.G. Meyer came out and looked at the house and sized the unit.

I questioned him about selection a 2.5 ton unit on a home with east / west sun exposure in the state of Florida. I thought a 3.0 3.5 ton unit would be more appropriate.

I was assured and promised that this sale rep with 20 years in the business and the company with over 35 years experience in the business that all would be fine. I was told that with Lowe's, Carrier, and a five star Carrier preferred dealer how could I go wrong.

Well, the units was installed earlier in the year of 2002. The first day we had that hit 90 deg. Outside the unit could no hold an interior 78 deg set point. It wasn't long that it was 83 deg in the house, and in the back bedrooms it was 87 deg.

D.G Meyer will not address the issue of the unit being undersized, Lowe's flat out told me that they WILL NOT back the product, and Carrier came out and set the system up to produce an extra ton of A/C cooling. Also carrier set the electronic t-stat to work like a mechanical t-stat. Carrier also did something to produce 4 extra degrees of cooling across the coil.

What all this means is that the system is very noisy, exhibits four degrees of temperature spread, and is running outside design specifications which will reduce the life of the unit. So, the manufacture has deliberately altered ALL the functions of why I paid $2000.00 more for this system than others.

Lowe's claims they just rent D.G. Meyer space in their store and get a sales kickback. D.G. Meyer continues to come up with lie, after lie, such as claiming that the duct work is falling apart. (I had a duct work inspection done prior and they had to back down again!). Carrier will not address and issues. I asked the Carrier rep if he thought the unit was under sized. He said he didn't know anything about that and walked out.

My wife and I run a business out of our home. We have spent a fortune in time and money to refute false claims. After this Friday the total cost will be $2400.00. I am paying and independent consultant to go though the entire system and tell me what Carrier did, and what should have been done in the first place.

I am building a case because it looks like a law suit is going to be the only way to resolve this.

Don't trust Lowe's. They WILL NOT back products that are sold though others via Lowe's install program. Please head this warning and save yourself a lot of grief!!!!!!. I think a class action suite should be brought against them for the implication that they will back the products.

Lowe's attitude / Lowe's credit card

The store manage at Lowe's called to follow up with how things went when the Carrier rep came over. I explained what transpired (see prior post). The store manager took the approach that since my 2.5 ton A/C was being pushed to run like a 3.5 ton unit that the problem was solved.

I told the Lowe's manager that my neighbor was taking out a second on his home and one thing he was going to do was to replace his A/C. I was able to keep my neighbor from selecting Lowe's. The Lowe's manager said he didn't care because Carrier lost the revenue, not Lowe's.

See, that's the point!!!!!!!!!!!! They don't care !!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, put the purchase on Lowe's credit card. I called the people at Lowe's credit and they told me that there is no dispute process and no way to withhold payment. How about that!!!!! STUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
