LRS Realty and management, should be ashamed of how they treat people that reside in the apartments that they manage. They steal people's apartment deposit by claiming retroactive late fees. They ask you to have your rent in by the 1st of the month with no grace period. They do not offer a place on premise to drop your rent. The drop box is approximately 35 miles from the majority of their properties. Even if your rent is post marked by the 1st they consider it late if it is not in their office by the 1st. In addition, they do not let you know that they are charging you a late fee until it is time for you to move and collect your deposit back. They work under the mindset that the residence do not have the money nor the education to fight them legally. Their is absolutely no matinence in their buildings. Alec Burnstein and Gail Burnstein are LA's SUPER SLUM LORDS!!! They represent the owner of 218 South Kenmore, LA CA 90004, Lisa Cuffin. It is unfortunate that people in this day and age prey on the weak only to fullfill there insatiable greed. This is the worst kind of person! Stay Away!!!

There are laws that are in place--LRS does not make up their own laws

To the Kenmore tenant,

Your lease clearly states there will be a late fee attached to your rent if it is late. You signed the lease knowing there wouldn't be a grace period for rent (in other cases tenants do have grace periods)--also, when you are given a 3-day notice you know there is a late fee. Another note, on your lease BEFORE you signed it you agreed to mail or deliver your RENT check to the office by the first. Why would you agree to this if you didn't intent on fulfilling your promise? If you fail to pay your late fees and choose to move out then yes, the LAW states that an owner or representative of an owner i.e. LRS may deduct rent out of your deposit if it went unpaid. What is the problem here? Also, most of the time, LRS is willing to negotiate if you nicely ask and have been a good tenant up to that point.

Another suggestion, don't bag on management companies for lack of maintenance. Usually owners of building DO NOT WANT TO PAY TO HAVE MAINTENANCE DONE ON THEIR UNITS OR BUILDINGS. This is NOT LRS's fault but LRS takes the brunt because they can. So, your complaints have been addressed effectively and I hope you gain knowledge on how renting works because I am sure you will rent again and it is best if you know what you're doing for all parties involved.
