MY CAR IS AN 87 PONTIAC TRANS AM GTA
THE MAACO IN ANAHEIM CA 92806, AT EAST LA PALMA HAS TO HAVE THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE WORLD.

I WENT BACK THERE TO HAVE A FEW THINGS CORRECTED ON MY CAR LIKE: OVER SPRAY ON MY RIMS TIRES AND CAPS, CHIPS OF PAINT MISSING, PAINTED OVER LITTLE DUST ROCKS ON HOOD, PUT MY OLD LOCK FROM MY OLD DOOR TO THE NEW DOOR, AND CLEAN OVER SRPRAYS THROUGHT OUT THE CAR, AND THE MIDDLE RIM COVERS FOR MY CAR WHICH COST 100 FOR THE WHOLE SET.

THE SHOP SUPERVISOR THAT I TALKED WITH TOLD ME HE WILL CORRECT PROBLEMS, AND THEN HE TOLD ME THAT FOR THEM TO GET THE CAR PERFECT THE 1ST TIME WAS FOR ME TO STOP VISITING MY CAR EVERYDAY.(I WAS INTENTIONALLY VISITING MY CAR TO ACTUALLY SEE IF THEY WERE WORKING ON IT BUT THAT WAS A LIE.

I CALLED THEM AND ASKED BUT OFCOURSE MY CAR WAS SITTING IN THE PARKING LOT COLLECTING DUST.)THEN I GOT MAD BECAUSE OF HIS COMMENT DUE TO THE FACT I WASNT ALLOWED TO SEE MY CAR. THEN HE TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD HAVE TOLD THEM EXACTLY WHAT TO DO SO THE MISTAKES WOULDNT HAPPEN.

SO I WENT HOME MADE A CORRECTION LIST FOR MAACO AND WITH SPECIFIC DIRRECTIONS AND INSTRUCTIONS WRITTEN.

HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT I SHOULDNT EXPECT PERFECTION BECAUSE THEY ARE A PRODUCTION SHOP AND NOTHING WILL BE PERFECT BUT THE ACTUALL OWNER TOLD ME THAT WHEN THEY ARE DONE WITH MY CAR IT WILL BE "t**s PERFECT" SO I WAS LIKE COOL. THEN WHEN I MENTIONED THIS COMMENT HE SAID HE NEVER SAID THAT TO ME, SO IN OTHER WORDS HE LIED TO ME.

I MADE A COMMENT TO THE BOSS THAT I DONT LIKE HIS SHOP SUPERVISOR BECAUSE OF THE COMMENT HE MADE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO SEE MY CAR AND HE SHOULD DO SOMETHING ABOUT THAT.
SO WHEN I WENT BACK TO PICK UP MY CAR I ASK THE SHOP SUPERVISOR IF MY CAR WAS GOING TO BE DONE TODAY (12/29/05) AND HE IGNORED ME LIKE I WASNT THERE AT ALL.

SO I WAS LIKE FINE TO MYSELF AND LOOKED FOR THE OWNER OR BOSS. COULDNT FIND HIM SO I ASKED WHERE THE BOSS WAS AND NO ONE KNOWS IN THE SHOP SINCE NO ONE THERE SPEAKS ENGLISH (ONLY SPANISH SPEAKING WORKERS).

SO I DID THE NEXT BEST THING CALLED THE MAACO I WAS AT AND HOPED THAT THE SHOP SUPERVISOR WILL PICK UP THE PHONE. AND HE DID AND ASK WHERE WAS THE OWNER AT AND HE SAID HE WILL BE BACK IN AN HOUR.

I HUNG UP THE PHONE AND WHEN HE WALK OUT HE SAY ME WITH THE PHONE, SO HE GUESSED IT WAS ME ON THE PHONE THAT CALLED. I TOLD ONE OF THE MEXICANS THAT WORKS THERE TO GET HIM AND THE SHOP SUPERVISOR GOT UP IN MY FACE TALKING s**t TO ME.

HE SAID I DONT APPRECIATE YOU TELLING ME WHAT TO DO AND GETTING MAD AT ME. (BUT I REMEMBER IN THE LAST 2 DAYS HE TOLD ME TO TELL HIM WHAT TO DO AND MAKE A LIST SO I DID AND I GOT AT HIM BECUASE OF THE COMMENT HE SAID THAT I COULDNT SEE MY CAR).

SO I WAS TALKING BACK TO HIM ANGRYLI. ME AND HIM WHERE SCREAMING FOR LIKE 5 MINS ATLEAST AND HE MAD A TREAT TO ME THAT HE IS GOING TO CALL THE COPS AND I TOLD HIM GO FOR IT. I'LL WAIT RIGHT HERE GO CALL THE COPS.

SO HE WENT TO THE BACK AND CALLED THE COPS( SO I THINK) BUT INSTEAD I FOUND OUT THAT HE CALLED HIS BOSS. 1 MINUTE LATER HE CAME BACK TO ME IN MY GIRLFRIENDS/ FUTURE WIFE CARS AND STARTED SCREAMING AT ME AGAIN. HE ASKED ME IF I DIDNT LIKE HIM AND I TOLD HIM YES I DONT LIKE YOU AT ALL. THEN HE ASKED ME IF I WANTED TO FIGHT HIM AND I SAID NO. THEN I ASKED HIM DID YOU CALL THE COPS AND HE SAID THERE IS NO NEED GETTING THE COPS INVOLVED( THEN I STARTED TO LAUGH). THEN HE JUST KEEP TALKING AND TALKING AND THEN ASKED ME FOR EXPLANATION WHY I DONT LIKE HIM.

I TRIED EXPLANING BUT KEPT CUTTING ME OFF SO MY FUTURE WIFE TOLD HIM TO LET ME EXPLAIN AND CLOSE YOUR MOUTH FOR A MIN.

THEN HE YELD AT HER WHICH MADE ME EVEN MORE MADDER.(ONE UNIVERSAL RULE DONT EVER YELL AT A WOMAN ESPECIALLY THE ONE IM ARE GOING TO MARRY).

THEN I TREATHEND HIM THAT IF HE WANTS ME TO CALL THE COPS. HE KEPT IGNORING ME AND DIDNT WANT TO ANSWER THE QUESTION. SO FINNALY HE SAID NO AND I WAS LAUGHING AGAIN.
THEN THE OWNER CAME BY AND HE WAS BRIEFED BY THE SHOP SUPERVISOR. THEN HE WAS TALKING TO ME ABOUT THE PROBLEMS AND TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE A PRODUCTION SHOP AND I SHOULDNT EXPECT PERFECTION AND THAT MY CAR WAS A PIECE OF s**t BEFORE THEY PAINTED IT. AND HE TREATENED ME BY CALLING THE COPS AND I SAID YOU KNOW WHAT CALL THE COPS THEN.

THEN HE SAID THERE IS NO USE OF GETTING THE COPS INVOLVED IN THIS SITUATION. TO ME EVERY TIME THEY MADE THIS TREAT THEY DONT FULLFILL IT INSTEAD THEY KEEP SAYING NO ITS OK, NO NEED FOR THE COPS.

THEN I ASKED HIM DO YOU WANT ME TO CALL THE COPS AND HE SAID NO NEED TO. FOR THE CORRECTIONS THAT I TOLD THEM TO TO LIKE THE CAPS FOR MY RIMS.

I TOLD THEM JUST TO CLEAN THE OVER SPRAY ON ALL 4 CAPS. INSTEAD THEY PAINTED OVER IT AND TOLD ME THAT I BOUGHT THEM LIKE THAT FOR GM.AND I TOLD HIM THEY ARE ORIGINAL GM RESTORATION PARTS AND SHOWED HIM THE STICKERS THAT GO ON THE CAPS AND HE WAS SHOCKED.

THEN ANOTHER GENTLEMEN CAME BY AND TOLD ME THAT THEY DID SPRAY OVER IT TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THEY WILL SAND THE CAPS DOWN AND RE-SPRAY IT.

IN MY MIND THERE IS ONE PROBLEM THEY ARE PLASTIN AND ITS HARD TO MAKE THE PLASTIC LOOK LIKE THE WAY I BOUGHT THEM. I TOLD THE OWNER ILL BUY A NEW ONE AND BILL IT TO HIM.

HE SAID I CAN DO THAT BUT HE WILL TROW IT RIGHT IN THE TRASH. BUT HE INSISTED THAT THEY WILL MAKE IT LOOK BETTER THAN BRAND NEW SO I SAID FINE.

STILL THEY DIDNT CORRECT THE OTHER ERRORS ON MY CAR BUT THEY HAVENT HEARD THE LAST OF ME.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR

#8Consumer Suggestion

Tue, December 19, 2006

I am an estimator for a small auto body shop in northern California

These are my suggestions

# 1 get at least 3 estimate from 3 different shops if the first estimate is $1500.00 and the second is $1399.00 and the third is $700.00
the $700.00 bid sounds nice but lets be realistic you get what you pay for

# 2 have them explain everything on the estimate if they act like they are to busy to explain or don't want to take the time to explain then they probably will not take the time to make sure your car is perfect and later when you have a complaint you will get the same service-to busy or don't care.

# 3 asks about the warranty-most shops have at least a one-year warranty If they don't run and run fast

# 4 just because you insurance tell you to go to a specific shop dose not mean it's a good shop - keep in mind you insurance company is looking out for them self's not you they want the work done as cheep as possible (by the way the law in California states that the owner of the vehicle gets to choose who repairs there vehicle- don't let the insurance company fool you the will try )

# 5 if you found the auto body shop by add in paper or you have a coupon let me tell you this
Most auto body shops that are good do not advertise they don't need to word of mouth is all you need

I hope this is help full
Sorry about the grammar and spelling LOL

Some info for John regarding "happy" cutomers

#8Consumer Suggestion

John,

You assume that if someone doesn't put a complaint on Rip Off Report, they are "happy". This is simply not the case. How many of those 1.4 million people are aware of ROR? I bet if they were, ED would need to triple his server space and get some huge hard drives for backup.

Most people who are unhappy will not complain at all, then there are some that will complain, but will not take any other action.

Then there are those like me. I always get satisfaction. And, I post on Rip Off Report.

I am so tired of that "production shop" excuse I could scream. If that is the excuse they operate under, it needs to be fully disclosed BEFORE they start the work. If painting over your window seals, door locks, and trim are part of the deal, it needs to be disclosed up front. If fish eyes and orange peel are part of the job, that needs to be spelled out too.

They run an outright fraud. The package I once bought specifically stated complete hand sanding and complete primer coat. What I got was scuffed down with a green pad, and spot primer. It was paint on paint and started peeeling off within the month. Not worth the $614 I paid.

same thing happened to us at same shop

we got our 62 fairlane painted there and they totally messed up our car. The car had a straight body and whoever did the sanding totally messed this car up and then they didn't properly clean the car, they did a bunch of oversprays, tore out the insulation under the hood and then painted over it, there was masking tape all over the car, the list goes on and on.

The owner Sam Reynoso wasn't willing to fix what his shop had done because we declined body work which the car didn't need until his shop totally messed up the car's body. We ended up filing a complaint with the Bureau of Auto Repair http://autorepair.ca.gov and they were really professional and helpful unfortunately they can't make him fix your car but we used their report to sue him in small claims for the cost of that paint job, cost of missing parts because the rear view mirrow was missing parts when the car was returned to us and the cost of the devaluation of the vehicle totalling $4000 he still hasn't paid the judgment but that's another story.

If you have any questions just email me (((ROR REDACTED EMAIL FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))) and I'll be happy to let you know more details on our situation.

vehicles painted vs total complaints

#8Consumer Comment

I monitor this site from time to time and sometimes add a comment as needed. I think alot of people who visit this site get convinced to go elsewhere when looking for a new paint job.

Let me give you a little known figure to work with and it might change your expectations and attitude towards Maaco .....there are approximatly 560 Maaco's in north america...now on an average they paint about 10 cars a day 5 days a week....this is about 1.4 million vehicles a year...now if you take all the complaints filed here in the past year and all the vehicles maaco painted and do the math....hmmmmmmm

there is about 58 complaints here for the year versus 1,400,000 vehicles ...seems alot of people are happy...it boils down to yes a few bad jobs get done....the attitude with Maaco is to reduce this number to an even smaller amount but there will always be the one customer you couldn't make happy ...

too bad there isnt a website where maaco could check out you..

Who did you think you are dealing with?

They aren't a custom shop, they are a quickie paint job shop. Actually for the money, they put out a pretty good paint job, but it is by no means a first-class operation, nor does it try to be. Most of the employees learned the trade in prison, so when you argued you got back what you gave. They are a shop that mostly caters to people that are selling the car, or painting a work car. But they can also use $4,500-a-gallon paint and spend all day sanding, if you pay them for it. "You get what you pay for" really applies to body & paint shops.
