Complaint Review: MAACO PAINT

I took my Silver 2006 Dodge Dakota SLT to MAACO PAINT AND AUTO BODY REPAIR at 6498 Carlisle Pike, Mechanicsburg PA 17050 on 13 June 2013 around 10:00 am . I talked to the manager DAN WEIGHER and told him I was there to get my truck fixed and painted because I just bought the truck and there was rust showing in the rear quarter panels, door jams had some paint chipping, some paint chipping in the rear of the truck bed near the cab and front bumper had some paint chipping also. We agreed that he would cut out the rust in the back quarter panels and weld new sheet metal and paint both sides of the truck the same exact color. We went back inside and agreed on a price of 500.00 for everything, I told him that I am going to drop my truck off that Friday the 14 of June 2013 and I would pick it up a week later on Saturday the 23 June 2013 after I came back from a wedding down in South Carolina. I ended up picking up the truck on Sunday the 23 June 2013 because I didn't get in till later Saturday night. When I got to look at it up-close I noticed that the front bumper had not been fixed or painted and the door jams wasn't touched up but the rear quarter panels looked good but I noticed I was missing the factory 4x4 sign on my right rear side and there was no rust. I took my truck to a graphics place in Mechanicsburg PA called RYDER GRAPHICS and I asked him to make me some 4X4 decals because I took my truck to MAACO Paint and they took off one side. He made up the decals and told me it would be $31.80 so I paid him the money and he put the decal on the right side and when he tried to put it on the left side he told me that MAACO had painted and clear coated over the 4X4 decal, so I had him remove the old one and apply the new one.

The next day I went back to MAACO and talked to Dan again on Monday 24 June 2013 around 1000 am and told him that the bumper and the door jams was not even done and that was unacceptable. I also told him the the decals 4X4 were missing on right side rear and he said they couldn't save it because they had to cut and weld where the rust was but they were able to save the left rear side lettering so I told him that I took it to a graphics place and they said that the old lettering was clear-coated over and he assured me that it wasn't and that the rear quarter panels couldn't save the lettering because of the welding and respray of the new paint. So he told me to leave the truck there and he will have his guys take care of the door jams and front bumper and it will be ready around 4:00 pm to pick up and I told him OK. I wasn't expecting to leave my truck there so I had to pay out of pocket $20.00 dollars for a cab to take me back home. I came back to pick up my truck at 4:00 pm that day and everything had been done although the door jams were painted with streaks but I didn't say anything and thanked him for honoring his word and taking care of a military brother. Fast forward to today 28 August 2013 around 3:45 p.m when I noticed that my rear quarter panels on both side look really crappy and there was more rust there than when I originally brought it took them. I became upset and I felt taken so I called up MAACO and talked to Dan and he tried to give me the run around and say that we agreed on just a paint job and I told him we did not agree on just a paint job we agreed on MAACO fixing and painting the rust on my quarter panels and fixing the other areas where there was paint chipping. He told me to come in that he was there till 5:00 pm and I said I am leaving now I am on my way.

I arrived at MAACO around 3:55 p.m and Dan was outside talking on the phone ignoring me for about 10 minutes looking back to see if I was still there. So I got tired of waiting there so I went inside and stood at the desk waiting to speak to him. He comes in the office and another customer walked in right after me, and Dan ignores me and ask's the other customer if he needed something and the guy pointed at me and said he was here first. So Dan grabs the estimate and walks outside and I followed him to where my truck was at. He proceeds to rub his fingers on my right sided rear quarter panel where the rust is coming through and I said this is not suppose to happen that it has only been 2 months since I had this work done. He replied that they don't guarantee rust work and I told him that we agreed on the work that needed to be fixed and that MAACO never even cut out the rusted metal quarter panels and re-welded new ones. He changed his tone and his answer and replied back that we didn't agree on cutting out the rust spots that we just agreed on a paint job. I told him that I just bought the truck and the only reason why I took it to MAACO was to get the quarter panels repaired and painted. He than walked back into the office and told me that there were 2 estimates made and I picked the cheaper one that didn't involve the repair of the quarter panels and that he can honor my price I already paid along with another $590.00. I was really upset because he not only called me a liar and tried to back peddle on his word but now he wants me to pay more money when that wasn't part of the original agreement. I told him that that's unfair and he should do the repair at the shops expense because he agreed to do the work for the price agreed in the first place. I also said that I am in the Army and that I shouldn't be treated like this. He raised his voice and told me that he offered to fix my truck at the deal he offered me and I told him that I wanted to talk to his boss and I am not paying no more money with a stern voice and he said that I needed to leave his shop or he would call the cops. This is not right that company's like this take your hard earned money and than not back up there work or work.
