Hello everyone My name is Lisa What I'm about to share with you in regards to what happened to my son will shock you! My Son who is 7yrs. old wanted to always learn karate and  for his early birthday gift I signed him up for lessons at Mahato Karate School in Wilmington Delaware and the Teacher seemed nice and my son was very excited to start his karate classes.

The first 2wks. my son loved going there then i saw a change the 3rd wk. He was nerves going to class by the way he acted and wasn't happy going to his karate class anymore then i tried to talk to him about it and he told me that the karate teacher was mean to him in class so i was concerned and sat down with Mr. Michael Graves his teacher and asked him why my son was so upset to come to class.

He said you were being mean! Mr. Michael Graves replied thats all part of the discipline for his training which for me made sense so i went back to my son and talked to him about what he said and everything seemed ok until the 4th week of his lessons!

He returned for more lessons the 4th wk. and when he went back the 2nd day of the 4th wk. of his karate class he was crying and didn't want to go and again said his karate teacher is mean and i asked my son in what way is he mean my son told me if i make a mistake in class with a technique he yells at me in my face and forcefully grabs my hands and puts them in the right place!

I was highly concerned about this first of all he shouldn't be yelling in his face or putting his hands on my son! So i sat down and talked to him about it and he denied everything which his jesters and his excuses didn't make sense when he was trying to cover up what he did to my son so i pulled my son out of his school and i'm currently having a lawyer investigate him!

My advice for concerned parents or anybody considering joining Mahato karate please don't send your kids there or you will be going through the same nightmare as I did save yourself  and your kids the trouble and find a good legitimate school.

Hope me sharing my bad experience at this karate school helps others to not face the same  heart ache as I did. Thank you all

TOTALLY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE AT MAHATO

#8Consumer Comment

Wed, January 13, 2010

I have a 7 year old son as well. He has been attending Mahato Karate for almost 2 years now. I have to say, I am completely shocked that anyone would describe Michael Graves in this manner. I have found him to be nothing but professional. He is a very passionate and disciplined man, that is very concerned and supportive of all of his students. My son was a victim of bullying, and Mr. Graves has help to build a confidence and security in my son that I can not imagine being possible without him and his staff.  He and the others at Mahato push the kids to believe in themselves and foster their abilities.

Karate takes a certain level of commitment that not all children are capable of handling. Some children are sensitive and don't respond well to the discipline and structure that karate represents. My son did, and he is a better behaved child, a better student, and a better athlete in other sports, all because of Mahato Karate. He has learned how to better control his emotions, has learned focus and self confidence. I will continue to take my son to Mahato, and I believe I will see further growth and further positive change in my child in the coming years. He is always excited to go and most nights I have a hard time getting him off the mat. I encourage anyone that is interested to come to the dojo and see for themselves.

Response to Linda

Good evening Linda I believe you 100% after reading the remarks of this fellow Dave that obviously trains at this mahato karate school and this instructor Dave teaches the kids but reading his counter report it raised a couple of red flags.

One he responded to you if you don't stop writing your report while your ahead that's not a threat its a promise! He is threatening to do physical harm to you which raises a concern why would a karate teacher threaten to do bodily harm to another if it wasn't true and A good martial artist uses his training for self-defense only as a last resort if his family or himself or a citizen is being attacked! Correct me if I'm wrong people Please?

Why would he threaten to physically harm a Lady! A man that is a karate teacher is threatening to hurt a lady! First of all A real man doesn't hurt a lady and second of all a good karate instructor doesn't misuse his training like he clearly demonstrated in his report that he does!

The Second Red flag is he evidently does yell at the kids in there face or he wouldn't get so upset with you writing the report about what you and your kid went through!

Please Linda e-mail me at hawaiitropics24009@aol.com I will be more then happy to help you close this school down and help you press charges against this fellow Dave!

 Take care Linda cya

My name is again David Scargall Jr. I have been with the school for about 15 years and yes we do correct to our students but not once do we ever yell in the students faces SPECIALLY little kids. I dont know who is writing all this BS about our school but its not funny any more and needs to stop. People trying to give our school a bad name. As far as I am concern this is the best Karate school in the whole world. And even when I was 10 years old I was not once, not once ever yelled at in my face. Whoever is believing all this. Look at it this way, would you or anyone you know drive 1-2 hours to go to a karate class every week ? I didn't think so. It's BS. I am and have been one of the instructors who teaches the little kids and that's not the way we run things here at mahato karate. We play karate games with the little kids but not all the time and a whole lot more fun stuff with the little kids.

If you don't believe me then come in for yourself and see that it is nothing like that. Don't believe some hacker kid that is bored at home and cant get no girl to spend his time with. BS. We have a Tv screen that you can watch your child on the mat and you will notice, specially with the little ones that there is no yelling. We do not teach anger here like at some schools. That is not the Mahato way. Mahato means the separation of good and evil. I personaly have never ever in my entire life seen anything like what these people are talking about. All's I am asking is to stop saying alot of horrable stuff about our school.

And if this is the person who me and my mom think it is. I suggest that you stop while your a head write now. That's not a threat that is a promise.

I'll get to those who said something b4 little later I got to kool off for a minute.

Your kid is LUCKY!

#8

Mon, August 17, 2009

So, your kid was messing up his katas and got yelled at for it? Got his hands positioned properly?

First off, spare me the bunk about "not laying hands on my son". It's a karate class. Of course there's going to be physical contact. Thank goodness he never made it to competition levels, as you would have been soiling yourself the first time he took a front snap kick to the solar plexus.

Your kid can count himself lucky, because when I was taking karate, if you messed up or got sloppy with your katas or positioning, you didn't just get yelled at, you got whacked with a shinai, which I can assure you is a rather painful experience. All part of the training and reinforcement.

Stop letting your kid be such a wuss.

This story is a hoax

Mon, August 17, 2009

This story is a hoax. It never happened and I would like the person that wrote this to please have their lawyer contact me. My school is located on the northern tip of Delaware and the ripoff report person address is almost 2 hours away on the southern end of Delaware at the beach. Every parent would agree that a 2 hour drive to and from for a karate session for a 7 year old is not a wise choice no matter how good the instructor . To add to this report a person responds and they are from Dover which is an hour away. It seems that this reporting company does not have a map of the state of Delaware or they have a marketing plan to increase their website traffic by writing fiction about reputable companies.
