A Long Beach man was arraigned Friday on grand larceny charges, accused of using an alias to buy more than $90,000 worth of gasoline for his business that he never paid for, police said.

Bail for Mahmut Unver, 41, of 438 E. Hudson St., was set at $10,000 bond or $5,000 cash at his arraignment in First District Court in Hempstead, according to court records.

Unver was arrested Thursday at his former business address in Island Park, Nassau County police said.

Fourth Precinct officers went to a U.S. Petroleum station at 3880 Long Beach Rd. after 2 p.m. on a report of a landlord-tenant disturbance. An investigation revealed that Unver was selling gasoline hoses and a sign from the station that he no longer owned, police said. He was arrested then, police said, and it was later determined he had used the alias of Michael Berger to acquire a line of credit from an oil company in upstate Tuxedo for the purchase of more than $90,000 worth of gas.

Police said Unver made the gas purchases between June and October of last year.

Unver, charged with second-degree and third-degree grand larceny, is due back in court Jan. 14.
