The company, MailWiper, has been advertising a spyware removal program in a way that has done nothing but give me grief. Every time their advertisement comes up, a window pops up that I cannot close (thus blocking me from my desktop) and my homepage is rewritten. Also, while that window is up, I keep getting new ads for this, that, and the other in similar full page windows that I cannot close. I've had to reboot my computer to remove said windows.

To makes things worse, attempts to e-mail the company to request that this form of advertisement be removed have met with nothing but form e-mails back stating how they weren't at fault for there being spyware on my machine. I am considering filing a criminal complaint against the company for hacking, since that's technically what I think this.

You've been invaded by spyware/adware along with a browser hijacker.

These spyware/adware morons are getting high on my list of social pests. The aggravation they cause should draw jail time in my opinion!

Download Spybot Search and Destroy, run a scan and let it remove all the junk it finds. Be sure to use the immunize and BHO blocker functions included.

Make sure that you remove BackWeb Lite if Spybot finds it. It allows surreptitious downloads into your computer and easily exploited by these spyware/adware developers.

Restart your computer.

If the problem persists (and it probably will since this is already embedded in your system and is undoubtedly in your registry) download a program called "Hijack This". It sounds scary, but it will help you get the embedded junk out of your registry.

Here is a link for Hijack This: (it is hard to find on a search)

After the program scans your registry, you can go to the TomCoyote forum listed on the Quick Start page and paste in the logfile produced by Hijack This. Folks trained in adware/spyware removal will tell you which registry keys and entries need to be deleted to completely rid yourself of the remnants of the adware without harming your system.

Once you get rid of the adware, download Spyware Guard which is a realtime spyware/adware blocker. It runs in the background and will run silently or with alerts so you can tell exactly which sites are attempting to infect you. Complain to the owner of the site if you are so inclined.

Once you have all this defensive armor in place, be sure to check for updates weekly for Spybot and Spyware Guard.

All the above programs are freeware with donations appreciated.

Good luck!
