Main Auto Care, La Porte Indiana 46350 Formally Main Muffler Shop. Over charge for rear brake install La Porte Indiana
On 3/5/2021 I sent my son to this place of business to get estimates, and possibly repairs done to get my rear brakes replaced on my GMC Sierra pickup truck. Main Auto estimated and priced the repair to be done for $858.20, the job was quite expensive to my taste for only rear brakes, I can see that for all 4 wheels. I asked another repair shop, called Harmons Expert Auto, same city as Main Auto Care is in. Harmons Expert Auto quoted me from $422.00 to $660.00. Harmons needed to look at my truck for the exact price. But by the time, it was too late and I had Main do the job before I got the estimate back from Harmons, as Main Auto had already started on my truck.
A few years ago, I had Harmons do all 4 wheels for approximately $775.00. But I didn't think about telling my son to take it there before or after Main Auto's quote. Main Auto stated the reason the price was that much is because they used premium parts, Harmons stated they always use premium parts in their repairs, so who was BS-ing me or used me?
Then on top of all this, Main Auto didn't let my son pay for the job with my credit card, I had to be there to use my card, I am disabled and I gave permission for them to run my card that I gave my son. They wouldn't allow that to happen, so Main Auto Care inconvienienced me, basically forced me to go there to pay for it myself, after permission was given to my son to pay for the repairs.
I cannot walk good as it is, and it was hard for me to do that. Never again for me to use Main Auto for my vehicle repairs, and I advise others to go elsewhere as well for their vehicle repairs, such as Harmons Expert Auto at 308 Washington Street, La Porte Indiana. 46350 Phone them at: (219) 325-0444

I wrote my problem in 2 separate facebook groups and had multiple people respond telling me they had similar problems with over charges at Main Auto, no buyer remorse here, and also replacing all 4 wheels with brakes a few years ago for a lower price does mean something.
Anyway, no more Main Auto for me, I will go elsewhere, I should've asked people before I had my son take it there.

You were not overcharged. This shop gave you an estimate, you agreed to the estimate, and they charged you that amount. If you thought it was too much for a rear brake job then you should have told your son to leave. Complaining about it after the fact is just a case of buyer's remorse. What you paid several years ago means nothing.
As for the Credit Card. A Merchant has the right to protect themselves requiring the Cardholder to be Present. This is not a RipOff. As an inconvenience for you is also an inconvenience for a criminal.
The thing you really should be looking at is why a truck with only 73,000 is looking at its (at least) second brake job. As the Brake Drums and calipers should last well over 150K. You appear to be replacing the drums every time you should be just replacing the brake pads.

You were not overcharged unless you were charged an amount greater than the approved estimate. Your dissatisfaction with the cost is a case of buyer's remorse.
A merchant is well within their right to require the cardholder to be present at the time of purchase.
