A pair of Richmond brothers are facing driving and drug charges after a traffic stop in southern Maine during which the brothers allegedly tried to rid their car of drugs by throwing them out the window of their Volkswagen Beetle. Robert Gilley, 39, and his 31-year-old brother, Christopher Gilley, were arrested Tuesday morning during a traffic stop on Interstate 295 in Falmouth, Maine State Police Spokesman Steve McCausland said in a release. Christopher Gilley, who was free on bail conditions for heroin and cocaine charges, was charged with violating conditions of release after failing a urine test for drugs, McCausland said. The brothers were both being held at the Cumberland County Jail. Trooper Justin Cooley stopped the brothers’ car after clocking it at 87 miles per hour, McCausland said. Cooley saw items being thrown from the car as it was pulling over, McCausland said. "Several other police officers then responded to the scene to conduct a search along the busy road,” he said. A crack cocaine pipe was found by a police dog in the median that police believe came from the car, according to McCausland. Troopers searched the car and found two hypodermic needles and marijuana, McCausland said. Share facebook tweet email print COMMENT
