On 8/2/12, Michael came to my door with a sales pitch to sell magazines that were going to be sent to military members in Iraq.  Part of the pitch was that he was going to get credit to attend a baseball tournament sponsored by the local American Legion.  He was well spoken and stated he was related to a elderly lady several blocks away.  In fact there is a a lady by that name four blocks away (he did his homework).

He claimed the money was tax deductible.  He wanted $59, but I told him it was too high.  He used a ruse that sucked me in.  He volunteered to assist me in cleaning my yard during the weekend for two hours if I purchased the "100 point" magazine purchase for the military in Iraq.  I bit.

Well, the receipt states in faint coloring that it's not tax deductible.  I called four American Legion Posts in the area and they are not sponsoring any baseball tournament.  The lady he was allegedly related to does not know the individual.  He never showed up to help in cleaning the yard.

I got sucked in by deceptive tactics and he appealed to my sense of compassion for the military.  It is shameful that people have to resort to these tactics, but in their mind it's a way to make a quick buck and have a good laugh at your expense.

Their email address is parked in "Go Daddy" and does not exist.  Their listed phone number is an answering machine.  I called it and left a message.  No response.  I put a stop payment on the check and sent them a certified letter canceling the order.

I'll research their company and/or the parent company and file a small claims lawsuit to recoup the costs I've incurred.

Beware, they are well trained and have answers to most of your questions.
