I worked at Mama Maria's, and was recently fired. They said I was harrassing someone. They wouldn't tell me who. It is ludicrous. Two others were fired at the same time. Same reason, but the difference was that one of them turned in a woman for stealing. The other was told by the wife of the owner to start a petition to see how many poeple want the theif fired. The wife denies it all now.

I was contacted by the owner after I had been fired, and he said that I was just an innocent bystander who got sucked in--and that's why I was fired. He said that my name was "brought into it". No one contacted me about anything. I did nothing.

The moral of the story: "Damned if you do, damned if you don't"

SEVERAL other long time employees quit on our behalf, and the ones who still work there are embarrassed to tell people where they work.

The owners wife treats everyone like children. She contradicts herself at every one of the monthly meetings. The last meeting I attended, she was literally SCREAMING and CUSSING at all of the servers. I was embarrassed to even be associated with the company.

Policies change on a daily basis. You cannot ask for a day off. You will be yelled at. If the manager on duty calls you off your shift, and you stay home; you will be written up. If you have a 5:00 shift and you get there at 5:00, you will be written up.

They also have hired and fired FOUR General Manager in the last year. Yes, four. One was fired after just 22 days of work because he was "too young". He is currently filing a lawsuit.

Not to mention, they had 25 reports of food poisoning in December of 2001 alone. It is a dirty kitchen, and the servers do not wash their hands. They smoke in the office; right next to the prep area. The majority of the staff does drugs in the employee bathroom.

Hope this helps ANYONE considering employment at Mama MAria's.

To the former Mama Maria's employee

I feel for you. I had a similar circumstance in 1990 at a car rental company in Nevada that I worked for since 1985 - I guess its their way of saying "you've been here too long, its time to get rid of you".

When I first started in '85 I was a vehicle service agent, then promoted to courtesy driver, then to fleet manager in '88. When management changed hands, I was demoted to a service driver, then demoted AGAIN to a service agent. By September 1990 I was terminated for a variety of false reasons, including time card fraud, which I never committed. Here's the kicker: Ellie, the manager that hired me in '85 quit earlier in the year because she refused to take a pay cut when the new management took over. And after my so-called dismissal five other employees who worked with me when I was fleet manager quit the company in protest of my firing.

So your story is very similar to mine. I am surprised that the restaurant has not been closed by the health department for the aforementioned violations you stated -- absolutely amazing.

And to the young man who was fired after 22 days as manager for being "too young", that happened to me too.

I hope everything has worked out now, since I am responding to a report that is more than two years old now... bottom line is you should never have been treated this way in ANY working environment.

False Allegations former disgruntled employee

#3UPDATE Employee

Fri, March 26, 2004

We at Mama Maria's feel that it is very difficult to defend ourselves against false allegations of a former disgruntled employee.

We will let our reputation of 14 years speak for itself concerning our food, service and excellent ranking with the Health Department.

While it is unfortunate that this former employee felt unjustly treated, our policies and guidelines are fair and required to run a successful business properly.
