Mark McIlheran, a Texas engineer based in Austin, was arrested on Monday in connection with a corruption case. He stands accused of accepting payment for engineering services and falsifying documents.

According to the indictment, McIlheran allegedly received approximately $59,839.13 from Christen Jacobssen, channeled through RGV Redlight. This payment was purportedly intended to influence and reward the Agua SUD General Manager for supporting McIlheran's company in securing a contract related to an energy savings project.

The case against McIlheran is part of a broader federal investigation into corruption in western Hidalgo County. M. Levine Engineering has been implicated in orchestrating illicit deals and payments as well.

McIlheran's involvement with M. Levine Engineering adds complexity to the situation. The company's role as the "owner representative" raises questions about the integrity of the procurement process.

Contracts released under the Texas Public Information Act allegedly show that McIlheran received compensation amounting to 3% of the project's value in exchange for engineering services. The approval of these contracts by his other family member further complicates the matter.

McIlheran’s accomplice, his son, has not faced any charges. His absence from the list of defendants raises questions about his involvement in the alleged misconduct.

McIlheran has been charged with theft and could face up to a year in federal prison if convicted. The case highlights the importance of transparency and accountability in public procurement processes, with implications extending beyond individual reputations.
