Mark, renter of GYPSEA in Hampton Beach NH- AVOID! Cancelled our reservation at last minute, refused to assist in finding another Internet

In February 2024 I put down a deposit of $1200 for a rental of his house, named GYPSEA, at Hampton Beach NH, for the week of July 27-August 3.  In July I paid the remaining $1200.  Two nights before our planned vacation, I misplaced my phone, so I knew I would not have access to the Airbnb hub when we arrived on the 27th.  I contacted Mark using my laptop and asked if another member of our party could be the contact point in case we had any problems.  

Mark proceeded to act confused about the request, and suddenly I got an email saying that the rental had been cancelled- this 36 hours before check-in.  I asked Mark for an explanation, and he said that he felt "uncomfortable" with the situation and decided to cancel.  He did not respond to requests for help with rebooking- he just ghosted me. 

I was up until 1 AM looking for another rental- we had four adults and two children ready to go on vacation, including my mother who would be celebrating her 92nd birthday at the beach as she had celebrated every birthday there since the 1980s.  I finally found one for $1600 more than Mark's place- out of our budget, but the only alternative was to cancel outright.  

I later learned that Mark was obligated to help us find an alternative in our price range, but neglected this responsibility.  Air BNB was VERY accomodating when we returned from our trip in providing some compensation and we ended up with a beautiful place, but anyone who tries to rent from Mark- BUYER BEWARE.  This guy is not ready to be a renter.  He will destroy your vacation with no real explanation without batting an eye.
