As a single mom of 3 I was desperate for a job. I received the ad on snagajob.com for a "secret shopper" position. Money in hand, let's face it, with 3 boys... I'm desperate. I placed my application and to my surprise, a couple weeks later I received US Postal package containing a check for $2865 and a signed letterhead from the company explaining my directions. Any struggling parent let's their astonishment turn to excitement before thinking rationally. After reading over the paperwork again, I began to see certain points that stand out. What type of company and/or person sends a check, no matter the value, to a person with no verification of identity or even of mere existence. I am not one to fall into the "get rich quick" schemes but I mean I had the check in hand so why not look into it? Good thing I did. I took the check and paperwork to a friend of mine at the local precinct and had him look it over. Within minutes he was shaking his head in disgust. Just as I had suspected, it was in fact, A SCAM. He told me to file a report and dispose of the check. Anyone desperate enough to cash this type of check will be facing check fraud charges and possible conspiracy charges. The person in charge of this crap, is a con artist, too lazy to get out and commit to a long days work. Hopefully this report will help others and raise awareness of these types of scams, and also stop allowing job websites to publish them.
