Hewlett Packard HP offers a trade in program whereby you purchase a new HP product and they will purchase your previously owned unit.

I purchased a new HW6945 windows mobile device for around $600 and sent them a working HP Pocket PC H5555 (complete along with charging station, AC unit, leather pouch, etc.). They initially appraised the trade-in unit at $110.

After two months of waiting and several emails / phone calls, I was told that the unit was dead on arrival and they would not provide any reimbursement.

I requested that they return the product and I would pay for any shipping costs. I got no response. I called the Market Velocity customer service and was told that I could get my product returned to me and that they would be contacting me via email. After 1 week, I received an email that they would not return the product - nor any of the accessories which were originally packaged with the unit.

I find it very difficult to believe that the unit is not working. I used the unit regularly including the day it was mailed to their attention. In addition, it wouldn't take months to determine if a product is dead on arrival.

It seems that my product was stolen by Hewlett Packard / Market Velocity or by one of their employees.

I received an update from Market Velocity and they indicated their intention to complete the trade-in transaction.

It seems likely that this will workout well after all.
