I had a phone interview with a "Talent Acquisition Specialist" by the name of Melissa from Market Source's corporate office in Alpharetta, Georgia. She was presponding to my resume submittal at their website. I decided to do the usual investigation at the Better Business Bureau's website to see if they had any complaints on them. Market Souce showed an A- rating and showed a low number for customer complaints in a 36-month period (2). This was my reasoning for proceeding to show interest for employment with them.

Within a short period of time after submitting my resume for an HP Account Retail Sales Rep at their website, I received a call from Melissa. She proceeded to interview me, and my gut feeling on this interview was that she was TOO friendly, and her enthusiasm seemed too good to be true. She mentioned that her regional manager, Joshua, was going to be in my area conducting interviews at a hotel rather than the retail site I was to work at, which I found to be a bit strange. Melissa advised me that she would need to talk with Joshua to set up a time for an interview and would call me back within 24 hours.

She did not call me back within 24 hours- I had to call her back to inquire on an interview time. Her mannerism on the phone was "as a matter of fact..." kind of tone. Coincidental? I had a check in my spirit and felt this seemed a bit shady. That was the first RED FLAG.

The second red flag for me popped up when Melissa sent this email:

"Thanks so much for confirming your interview.

One thing I failed to mention is if chosen for the position, Josh Jones will call after all of the interviews are conducted to complete one of the Employment Verification forms. I have attached the actual document AND the list of requirements needed to complete this form. Please review and confirm you have the proper documentation to complete an I-9."

Thanks so much, again best of luck!

Thanks,
Melissa

As you may or may not know, an I9 form is an "Employment Eligibility Verification" form. It is for Market Souce to hire individuals on an "Independent Contractor" basis. Immediately, I felt uncomfortable with providing my driver's licence ans social security info to a comapny who was based out of state (I live in California) and also to a company who had not formally hired me at that point.

So before proceeding with any employment efforts on my part, I decided to do even more investigating on Market Source. That's how I found this website and all the complaints of business practices on them. I am glad I did! I removed myself from the candidate list for the HP Account Retail Sales Rep position.

Be very cautious when approaching this company. The bad part about this- Market Source now has my name, address, and phone number. I can only imagine, my level of spam mail will now increase.

I currently work for Marketsource it's not a rip off I've been here for 2 years and have been promoted 3 times within those years. It may have just been the person you were dealing with over the phone. But my process was smooth , much like the other people I have brought on board. The recruiter contacted me, set up my interview, I went, got the position, and grew tremendously ever since. Hopefully you'd give it another try. Marketsource is an awesome company.
