I was introduced to Marshall as the one who promoted Charles Schulz's "Snoopy" character and had made a bundle. He seemed self-effacing, knowledgeable, and genuinely concerned for the success of my books.

He invited me to his apartment to drop off the manuscripts. He asked me to sign an agreement and to pay a $1500 fee. He later referred me to a professional proof reader for another $500 fee.

The manuscript sat on his desk for months. I finally tore up the contract and demanded my manuscript be returned. Since the time I met him he had moved (down) to another apartment complex in San Diego and gotten married for the fourth time. Bad signs. I knew the money was gone.

When I got the manuscripts back it was clear they hadn't been touched, mailed, or returned. They were in the same perfect condition and box I had given him.

What a waste. What a fraud. I've since published my work, some on demand, some through other reputable publishers. But the money and many months wasted on Lucas should not be repeated by another would-be writer or inventor.
