Complaint Review: Martial Arts World

Martial Arts World Total scam! Y.K. Kim all about the money. Rips off school owners and their students. Orlando Florida

Martial Arts World (MAW) run by Y.K. Kim, has been recruiting schools to join them for the price of $900 a month. They GUARANTEE you that they will grow your school by an additional $10,000.00 a month. In reality, for this price, you get business systems that DON'T work and actually lower your monthly net. Any schools that come from a different background have ultimately suffered from the bad business advice given by the MAW organization. Besides my schools, I personally watched them destroy more then five others and then blame the school owners for MAW's failed business practices.

Since joining the organization almost four years ago we have seen broken promise after broken promise. Lies and slick showmanship are the underlying business practice of these charlatans. Beware of this organization!!! As I checked today, the organization has shrunk from over 20 schools to 12 as of today. Some of the schools that they have listed on their website are no longer with them and others are on their way out.

In addition they have had ongoing problems in Virginia with one school owner molesting a child and another just arrested for child pornography.

I agree with everything in the report. Please stay away from Martial Arts World. If you are a Martial Arts World student from the original small group of Martial Arts World schools it might work. If you are a current school owner DO NOT CONVERT TO THEM. All the succesful schools Debbie talks about are the original MAW schools or students. Every school that has joined in the past has left or they will leave shortly. You will lose more than money if you join. There is way more than the $900 monthly fee. Uniforms, books, Dvd's yearly fee's to be retrained (usually$1,000 plus). Even worse your students and staff have to pay these crazy cost's. Why should your staff have to pay to be recertified every year. God I wish I had all the money I spent with them. I promise you will feel like an outsider. Just join MATA, NAPMA, MAIA or some orginazation that you can netwirk with.

Some comments that need to be corrected - As the original school that complained. It is important to clear some things up. Debbie is not a school owner and therefore has no direct involvement in how the org conducts itself in business nationally. She may be the lady dating Mike Bugg who is one of the leaders of MAW and owns the Chesterfield location. Therefore she has an extreme conflict of interest in printing her own erroneous, misleading information.

1. Any information that is printed in regard to successful school ownership in Martial Arts World magazine is generally embellished. I know, as my schools income was one of the incomes that was increased far beyond what it was in an interview. So were many others (which is right from the school owners mouth, as well as the people who do the interviewing at the magazine). The scam goes like this. You get interviewed, then the editor changes the answers and prints untrue statements. The Magazine is one big ad to join MAW. It is COMPLETELY self serving. Anyone with intelligence can see that.

2. The person rebutting my original statement had the wrong guy. MAW NEVER gave me $100k or any other loan. The person that "Debbie" is referring to lost his school shortly after joining MAW. The details of that loan and its repayment have nothing to do with me or any of the other school owners that were also severely injured.

3. It is easy to call names in regard to who filed the report - especially when you don't know who that person is. The fact is that I am a school owner who has left and is now following productive business systems which are rebuilding my businesses. The same can be said of every other school owner that I know, that left for good.

There are many organizations that one can join that have solid business system - Premier, Satori, John Gradens org, Mile High Karate, etc. In addition, they don't expect you to jump around like a fool at an Amway convention instead of teaching martial arts. In other words they do not compromise the martial arts for money. In addition, you can run your own organization without paying any money to anyone other then a good billing company like United Professionals, AMS, or just pay a good marketing firm like NAPMA for advice and do your own billing in house.

Regardless of what your decision would be, just know that you have been warned. Any rebuttal from a non school owner or one of the principal schools from Virginia or Florida would definitely be something to be wary of.

I have been affilated with Martial Arts World for nearly 6 years. When I heard about this complaint, I could not believe it. I wanted to state the facts since facts are often mistated or exaggerated when the person telling them is upset. First and foremost, the author of this complaint is an ungrateful arrogant coward. Ungrateful, in that Martial Arts World loaned this man (I use the term loosely) $100k to help save his failing marital arts school and his home without barely knowing him. Can you imagine? Would you do that? Even for a CLOSE friend?
Secondly, this person did not follow the structure and guidelines given by the corporation for success. Instead, like so many others these days, he was expecting to get "something for nothing". Sorry to say, there is nothing free in this world and there is no magic formula that just dumps money in your pocket without having to put in some time and effort into it. It is obvious that if you work hard within the Martial Arts World curriculum that you can be very successful. Just pick up a copy of Martial Arts World Magazine and see how well the top schools are performing! In fact, the number one school is in Virginia. The very place this person has chosen to spotlight in a negative way. Yes, there was an isolated incident with one school in Virginia. But there was no child molestation and the charges against this person were for innappriate materials found on a work computer (OUT OF STATE and a couple of years back) not anywhere near the Martial Arts World location. That school was immediately closed down. It was unfortunate event for sure, but the other schools in the area are thriving which only goes to show that the MAW family is strong and well respected in the community. Third, to address the coward comment, this person did not reveal his real name nor his location. This can only mean that he is not man enough to stick by his word. He knows that he is wrong for blaming his failures on a company that did nothing but stand by him.
