I saw a pending transaction on my bank account from Privacy Matters and called the phone number. There were only 3 choices I could make: enter and ID number, account number or phone number. I could not even reach a real person to inquire about this pending charge. I called my bank immediately and was offered to have my debit card cancelled and replaced. I was also told that I had to wait 2 or 3 days until an 'actual' charge was made to my account. At that time I could 'dispute' the charge. I could not recall anything I have done on my PC lately that would have given Privcacy Matters my debit card number. I did some searching on Google and found Ripoff Report and from reading some of the messages, I deduced that I, too, recently used Intelius to get a report on an individual and was charged by Intelius for this report. I was never told that there would also be a charge from Privacy Matters. I am now trying to contact Intelius and will be calling my bank in a couple of days to file a dispute.

Finally talked to someone at Privacy Matters

I finally reached a REAL person at Privacy Matters who told me that I authorzed the opening of an account with them. I disputed his information and asked how/when this happened. He said the authorization came from my requesting a $10 rebate on a search I had made from the Intelius site. After I denied makin any conscinece choice to open an accoutn with PM, he siad the account would be closed and my bank account credited. That was yesterday, 1/7/08. I will be checking my account closely in the next few days for the credit. Of course, our conversation was a lot longer than it appears and he had to confer with a Manager to approve the closing and credit to my account.
