I called Maurice Auto Repair and told them I needed a diagnostic test ran on my A.C. to figure out what was wrong. They told me that they would do a diagnostics for 20.00 and if I let them fix it they would apply the 20 to the repair cost. I took the car in and confirmed what they said about the diagnostic test being 20. I'm waiting for them to come tell me what's wrong and what the cost is. Finally after about an hour, Maurice himself calls me in the back where my car is. It is blowing cold air again, and I figured it was something minor since they fixed it without letting me know what it was. At that time I asked what it was, and he told me they flushed the a.c. and added freeon. And the cost is around 150.00. I'm a veteran and get paid once a month, and was only prepared to pay the 20 for the diagnostic test. Maurice told me they could undo what they did, if I didn't have the money. For fear they would get mad if I said undo it, and mess something else up, I said leave it. I asked were they done and he said yes, so I go back in the waiting room to pay my bill. The clerk said I had to wait for them to bring the invoice up front. After about another hour and a half they bring the invoice, and the balance was 172.00. 150.00 of that was labor and 10.00 for some part. I may be a female but I have sense enough to know I got ripped off. I'm not even sure they did a diagnostic test, it wasn't on the receipt. And if they did, why not talk to me and tell me what was wrong before taking it upon themselves to go ahead and fix it.

Playing ALL The Cards, Right?

Did you request a written estimate BEFORE work began?  Did you sign any paperwork which told you about your liabilities and theirs in regard to the written estimate procedure?  If you told them you didn't want an estimate, they could be off the hook in regards to the written estimate law as per the State of Florida.

Finally and more importantly, I doubt very much as part of the repair process they asked you for a 214.  It is you whiners who discredit all of us who continue to wear the uniform or have worn the uniform to play the veteran card when you don't get your way.  Oh, it wasn't just that.  The other card was you are a woman.  Everything which happens to you is because of discrimination, right?
