Watch the Horizon!! Max Horizon Publications and Securities that is. In the middle of June 2002 I fell for what now appears to be a costly lesson in the world of home business. I received a mail solicatation from Max Horizon Publications in the mail. Their "come-on" sounded good and true. They outlined what they would do very well.

I sent them $42.00. I have received nothing but a bunch of nothing. I got a phone number which refers you to a toll-free phone number which gets you no where at all.

I contacted the Las Vegas P.D. Fraud Dept and only got told that the company has a license to operate in the county but could not tell me if they were legit.

NOW,I'm GOING to find out what is going on. This is The United States and we are not supposed to do this to each other.

Unfortunately this scam not only not original (the "for $50 I will give you the secret to make thousands" the oldest scam of the world), not only costs $42, but can be very dangerous.

Let see, what is Max Horizon's scam (according the web-site, I have not seen the mailed version)
Quote:

HERE'S HOW THIS AMAZING PROGRAM WILL MAKE YOU $$$$$
Let's say that you decide to start small. You would place a tiny classified ad in
your local paper for $10. Looks something like this.....

"Live in a $100,000 Home without ANY Money "
Send $10 & self-addressed stamped envelope to:
- YOUR NAME
- YOUR ADDRESS
- YOUR CITY AND STATE

Let's also say that ad the pulls in just 10 orders. I bet you know hundreds of people would pay $10 just to know how to live in a home for FREE. That comes out to $100 (10 orders X $10). Big whoop, a lousy $100, not exciting right. What now happens if you simply take that $100 and put it in 10 newspapers. You would get 100 orders at $10 each or $1,000. Now just do that once a week which means you make $4,000 a month. It all started with 10 bucks.

What is wrong with this? First of all, I am absolutely sure, that you will not get 10 orders/week, simply putting a tiny classified to the local paper. Much more likely the local police will knock on your door. People do not send $10 to strangers. (Yes, they send $45-300 for a more elaborate scam, but not as a response to a newspaper classified.) The biggest problem: you have to scam others in the same way you were scammed by this guy. You become part of his scam. You will be held responsible for this scam. Authorities will investigate you, disgruntled people will be after you.

If you are not interested in selling the "big secret", only to know it, for $42 you will get nothing - as you could read in the report above.

Meanwhile Las Vegas PD might have not been interested, USPS Inspectors would love to hear about this...
