I purchased a 2012 Kia Optima as a new used car from Car Max. I also purchased an extended warranty. 18 months later the car lost power while driving on the freeway. Had it towed. Engine was dead. No check engine light, low oil, or temperture light ever came on. I filed a claim with the Warranty Group (Max Care) and they denied the claim stating that there was no oil in the car. The first mechanic that inspected the car stated that there was definitely oil in the car about 1.5 qts. The mechanic at Car Max said there was no oil in the car and the service manager at the Kia dealer said there was there was definitely oil in the car about 1.0 qts. The investigator from Max Care said there was only 1/4 qt oil in the car.

I asked if the oil was that low why didn't any sensor lights for the engine, oil or temperature come on. As I am not a mechanic and had just gotten an oil change 6 weeks prior; how would I know if there was a problem in no warning was given. An experienced 20 plus years mechanic told me that if the car had no oil or 1/4 qt the engine would have burned up. It didn't . The engine was seized. The Warranty Group denied my claim and is unwilling to repair the car. They sell warranties but refuse to honor them. No one should ever be treated this way. They are in the business of denying service for people that have purchased extended warranties as a protection.
