I contacted the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board and they told me this contractor does not have a roofing license and that he never has had one to put roofs on.  I had this contractor, Robert E. Brewster, owner of Maximus Metal Roofing, Inc. install a metal roof on my house in Sept. 2011. The entire experience was a nightmarefor me; lots of no shows on days they were supposed to come, no response 90% of the time to my phone calls and emails asking when they would complete their work.  Mr. Brewster accuses his customers of harrassing him when they call or email him repeatedly to come fix his work or the leaks in their roofs.  I have seen Brewster tell all klinds of lies in rebuttal to a customer's complaint.  He tries to accuse the customer, blames his liability insurance (and check that too becuase the certificate he gave me lapsed in Nov. 2011 and that insurance company is looking for him too), takes part of what the customer says and twists that to fit his statements of untruth.   Do not believe a word this contractor tells you.

The Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board requests that those who have engaged Brewster for roofing services of $10,000 or over to contact Darlene Burt at the Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board.  The Board will follow up with Mr. Brewster and Maximus Metal Roofing.   The contact information:  Darlene Burt,Legal Assistant,Home Builders Licensure Board, 445 Herron Street, Montgomery, Alabama 36104
Phone (334) 242-2230 Ext. 232 and Fax (334) 263-1397

Brewster did agree on 4 occasions to come complete the work on my roof - but no show, no phone call, no emails - I would take time off from work and wait all day and he would not show, call, text or email. It took him 6 weeks to finally come the last time for a few minutes and the job is not complete yet.  I have not been able to climb up on the roof and check his work out as the back of my roof is 2-1/2 stories as I am a female over 60.  I got up on a ladder on top of my back porch approx. 20+ feet in the air and I can see that there are not the proper number of screws in the panels on the south end of the backside of my roof.  I have hired another metal roofer to review his work, take photos and make documentation and finish his work. Mr. Brewster has been totally unresponsive to my many requests that he come and finish he work.  Once he got all his money he told me he had a few more hours work but would finish it.  He hasn't.  He also intentionally put my gutter screen upside down in the gutters eventhough the instruction for installation were on each piece of screening.  He said he thought it would work better to turn it upside down - and he would come fix it - he hasn't.  Water rums ACROSS the gutter screen, down around the gutter itself and onto the fascia and soffit.  The water needs to run INTO the gutter - not across it.

Oh yes, this company won Angie's List award last year in 2010 but NOT this year. They currently have 4 disputes against them with about 6 or 7 F ratings. They also have 3 unresolved complaints at the BBB in the last half year. Additionally, Angie's List has numerous warnings posted on the top of Maximus Metal Roofing's report page, the first sayng: The owner or a key employee associated with this provider has been charged with a felony and the provider will therefore be withheld from Category and Keyword searches indefinitely.

Additionally Angie's List indicates that: This provider was audited as part of either a random or on-demand audit and was found to be lacking the Alabama Residential Home Builders License required to perform its trade or profession. The provider pledged to obtain the required credential by entering a Compliance Plan, but failed to obtain it by the deadline agreed upon and therefore will be withheld from Category and Keyword searches indefinitely. You need to go to Angie's List and read what their current customers have to say about the company and Mr. Brewster.  It's not pretty.   You will have to search by company name as Angie's list will not let this contractor's name come up in a "roofing" search.   One customer, whose sister I know and worked with told me that he took $12,000 from her as a down payment on a $24,000 roofing job but never ordered any roofing materials (metal) to put on her roof.  He kept telling her that the supplier was having problems and the metal was backordered/delayed at the manufacturer.  After weeks of this delay I was told the customer called the metal company and was told that Brewster or his company did not ever order the metal.  Customer confronted Brewster and demanded a refund.  Brewster told her he didn't have $12,000 but told her to order and pay for the metal and he would put it on!!!  As of the end of December 2011, Brewster had not responded to the customer's demand for a refund of her $12,000.  She is considering filing a criminal complaint.

This is also posted on Angie's List on Maximus Metal Roofing's report page:  Angie's List closely protects the use of our brand name, trademarks and copyrighted information. This provider has violated our usage guidelines and has failed to adequately respond to the issue. Angie's List is withholding the provider from Category and Keyword searches until this matter has been resolved.

This is also posted on Angie's List on maximus Metal Roofing's report page:  Angie's List offers a fast, but effective, resolution service if a member ever runs into problems with a provider they have hired. Through our Complaint Resolution Process, providers that fail to follow through on a pledge to resolve an issue to the member's satisfaction find themselves in the Penalty Box for their Broken Promise. Needless to say:   Avoid this contractor and his company.
