I am reporting maxtor or www.maxtor.com which is a seagrave company for selling illegal products to customers.

They continue to sell external hard drives via internet & factory manafactures even though they know & reconise that they are faulty. They do not offer a replacement or refund & they just reply saying "we can't help you"

My hard drive was faulty so I emailed maxtor asking for suport yet I have no reply.

I decided to search the internet to see if any person knew what went wrong & I stumbled accross a forum which had hundreds of posts declaring faulty drives from maxtor & they got no support.

This is unactseptable & as I see this surely this is illegal to sell faulty goods.

I think this is disgusting & should be reported to an authority.

I can have a petition with over 1000 signatures declaring the same problem with maxtor. This is illegal & needs to be sorted before more cusoumers like me are ripped off with these products. LEGAL ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN! CAN THIS HAPPEN?

John, I work at a company that manufactures PC based medical equipment. We use 200-300 hard drives per year in the course of our output. Several years ago we decided to use the Maxtor DiamondMax Plus8 40 gig EIDE drives because they were advertised to have a 3 year warranty. We figured that since Maxtor had enough confidence in its product to place a long warranty on it, then our product should be just as reliable. After about 18 months, these drives started dropping like flies. When we went to the Maxtor website to get RMA numbers, lo and behold the warranty had been cut to 13 months. We got stuck with 48 defective drives that we had to "eat" the cost of. Our customer confidence in the affected PC's was shot down, it took quite some time for us to re-coup our own industry reputation. Needless to say, we quit using Maxtor drives and went with Western Digital, who offers a 5 year warranty, and who honors it.
John, you may be personally sincere in offering to help in Ashley's case...but Maxtor as a company isn't willing to stand behind their product or warranty. As for world-class customer service, that doesn't wash either. Like Ashley, my emails to Maxtor were ignored. I did spend several hours on the phone with Maxtor with no solution from them.
