Maytag BEWARE: Exploding glass lid and expect the company to blame to you to avoid replacement Benton Harbor MI
Yesterday, 4/30/18, during a cycle, the glass lid shattered on our washer. As the washer was just purchased on 1/8/18 and delivered late January as it was back-ordered, Maytag sent someone out to look at it.
The technician came in, looked at it and went outside for awhile. When he came back in, he told me there was a point of impact and that it was not covered under warranty. I can assure you, NOTHING fell on the washer. I cleaned up the glass so the dogs would not step in the glass. You can see where the glass, exploded from the inside, up and out. There was NO point of impact.
The technician then told me that there were no known issues with the lid and that neither he nor Maytag had heard of any issues with this model. However, the lid is on backorder and he can't get an estimate on when it will be available.
On Home Depot and Lowes, there are reviews from customers saying the exact same thing as I. One even has a photo and the lid spidered in the EXACT same way, they even bought it the same day I bought mine. Don't tell me that there are no known issues.
I DO NOT want this exploding safety hazard in this house and others need to be warned of the potential dangers associated with the lid. If this happened when I was not home, the dogs would have walked through shards of glass, leaving blood everywhere. What would have happened if I or a child was standing nearby or been walking past?? Maytag, this is a SERIOUS issue with this lid.
This lid issue has happened to others.
I want the washer replaced with one of the same capacity that does not have a glass lid.
Update: 11:55am. Maytag called and said they will pay for a new lid and the labor. HOWEVER, the lid is out of stock and when it will be instock is unknown. I did not pay for a giant brick. I paid for a washer. Replace the washer. You don't have the parts and can't give a date on when they will be instock. Useless, the washer is useless.
