Purchased Maytag Gas range MGR5765QDO, in Jan 2004 at Lowes. After 14 months of ownership, the oven handle snapped off (approx $75 to replace) and then the gas ignitor to oven burned up (cost $200/part and labor) . Normal ignitors last approx 5-7 years. In November 2007, the gas valve to the oven went out (Service call to determine problem - $60. We didn't replace part because cost of repair is $240-260). I've been without an oven for 13 months.

My point: I spent approx. $600 for a stove, and in 4 years of ownership, I spent nearly $300 to replace the ignitor and ovendoor handle. And the oven still doesn't work! Now, I need to $260 to replace the bake valve.

I contacted Maytag customer service numerous times, but their stance is, "You didn't buy an extended warranty, so there is nothing we can do."

I honestly feel that I bought a lemon product and I am not going to spend more money repairing the oven because I think that it is an essentially inferior product. I question the quality of the parts in Maytag applicances: in my cases, we have had a bad oven door handle, ignitor, and gas valve, etc. These parts should be lasting longer.

I am disappointed with Maytag - I thought they had a good reputation. But the stove I bought was junk.

We have learned that addition to the broken gas valve the oven, the control panel is shot on the oven. We suspect that when we ran the "self-clean" feature, it destroyed the oven.

In the time we have owned the stove we have had the following break:
1. oven door handle; 2 an igniter (we actually bought 2 ignitors because we tried to replace the igniter the second time the oven went down) 3. gas valve to the oven; 4. control panel

Maytag appliances are junk.
