McAfee ripoff Denied rebate when ALL requirements were fully met! Santa Clara California
I purchased McAfee 8.0 Virus Scan at BestBuy after seeing their weekly ad. It offered a rebate on the product that essentially made the product free. ($49.99 price, minus mail-in $30 rebate + $20 rebate) I diligently gathered ALL the documentation required in the offer and mailed it well before the deadline. I also bought McAfee personalfirewallplus 5.0 from Buy.com which also offered a $10 rebate. ALL documentation was also sent with that submission. I received three e-mails stating my rebate requests were received and being processed. A few weeks later on 10/22/04 I received three postcards telling me they were unable to honor my rebates for several reasons,(Missing e-mail address, missing receipt,missing purchase location, etc.) None of the stated reasons were true. ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION WAS SENT IN. It stated I could resubmit my request if I did so by 10/30/04 (eight days) which I plan to do. (I did photocopy all my documents beforehand). From what I've read from others I'm not holding my breath. I plan on exploring mail fraud charges if I am not reimbursed.

I was pleasantly surprised (shocked actually!) by a second rebate check from McAfee today (1/18/05). It was for $30 and that is the balance that they owed me. So this update is to inform everyone that they finally fulfilled their offer. I am happy to finally get my money, but they whole affair has left me bitter with McAfee. Good luck with your rebates!

Demand a Fax number

Call them up and demand a fax number that you can fax the information over and receive a confirmation number to!!! IF they say they don't have one, call them liars. Anyone as big as McAffe has a fax machine!

After resubmitting the photo-copies of all the required documents, I received three notices from McAfee. Two of them stated I still wasn't eligible for a rebate and one stated I was. All three submissions were sent in at the same time in the same envelope! How can I be eligible for one if not all! Today (11/09/04) I received a rebate check for $30.00. Well, that is half what they owe me. I will continue to try and get the rest of my due rebate. The rebate check came from Texas. All documentation was sent to Miami, FL. I don't know if they are incompetent or dishonest, but regardless, they have lost a longtime customer. I will update if any other rebate is received, but I'd be surprised.
