Two years ago we got a brand new hot water heater from McCarthy Services. Because we have hydro-heat (the hot water is tied in to our heating system) the new heater plus installation cost $2,700. The water was warmer than our completely non-functioning heater, but tepid at best. 9 months later, we came home to find water all over the basement. When McCarthy came out, they told us that we needed a valve placed in line with the main hook up to our house, and that it was standard equipment. They said the lack of that valve is what caused of heater failure. Even though it was obvious that they should of installed the "standard equipment" from the get -go, they charged us $400 to put in the new valve. The plumbers left, and the water was even less warm than it had ever been before. After about 9 more months of putting up with the lukewarm water, we called another plumber (different company at this point) to come in to see if they could fix the problem. The new plumbers told us that McCarthy had left a valve closed, and that the water heater had been only partially heating the water this whole time. Now, one week later - the basement is flooded with water again. Thank McCarthy! We paid almost 3 grand for a brand new heater that has never worked. Total rip off. Go with any other company, and save your money.
